How do I look? Sana turns left and right before the mirror.

As usual, I say. You are going to outshine everyone today. Stop being so fussy about it.

Hussy? she comes to me and straightens the corner of my sari. I am not a hussy, just careful. I want to look my best today. Guess who asked me for today’s fresher’s night?

    Who?

    Vishesh Dhamb,

I halt in my tracks as I hear her. Keeping the lipstick back on the dressing table, I turn to her.

You don’t mean basketball champ... but the smile floating on her lips leaves me in no doubt.

Oh. My. God! I shriek with joy.

Vishesh Dhamb, tell me you are not joking?

I am not, honey. She laughs at my expression.

So, today is your big night, hmm?

You can say that, she turns to attend her phone call and exits the room.

I have always envied Sana for her excellent, perfect manners. That’s what makes her the most popular girl in our school. Sana is everything, I want to be. Fine, refined styles, unmatched beauty, which makes every boy within one radius, drool, with love or lust.

On top of that, a smile so killing, it makes opposite-sex blood boil. From class one onwards, Sana has been my best buddy.

She and I were together in almost, everything. My dad is a farmer, who provided me with everything best in life. Still, I am no match to Sana’s standard of living.

Her parents are from cream layers of society. She has seen much high luxurious life than me. The dress, which I am wearing, is a gift from her side. I had denied accepting it, at first, but later, at her firm insistence, I could not say no.

She is a gem of a person, to that, I have no doubt, but sometimes, life’s unfairness is too much for me to take in.

Ulhas, my dad, is happy when I show him her gift but, I sense certain guilt too, which says, he should have gifted me the dress, not Sana.

Like a moron, I feel like kicking my back. I should never have shown him the dress, in the first place.

Let’s go then, I come out of my room and proceeds towards the stairs.

Naina, dad’s face is full of surprise, as he sees me. Sari is indeed an exquisite piece, I acknowledge. The soft cloth brushing against my leg elicits a shiver in my chest.

She looks pretty, doesn’t she uncle? Sana’s voice is full of admiration, as she stands behind me.

    You look wonderful, kid.

Thanks, Dad, heated to my cheeks, straightening my glasses on nose, I say.

    Sana, let’s go.

    Sure, she chuckles.

I look like a drowsy rat, next to such a beautiful bird, the thought knocks me flat. No sooner both of us make our entry inside the hall, I feel each and every gaze towards us.

Party has started, and every face shines with excitement.

Hello girls, that husky voice makes both of us turn. A gasp leaves Sana’s mouth, as Vishesh takes her hand in his and places a kiss on it.

Hi, you look great, Sana mouths the biggest understatement of the year. Leave great, he looked marvellous. Hi Naina, Finally he remembers, that I am present there, too.

Hi V, nervously, I shake his hand.

My, my, girls actually look pretty in Sari. He smiles.

    Thank you, I say.

Sana, he turns to her, "let me introduce you to my other friends. When I told my mum
