Thank you for taking out the time to read this book. Remember, Love never dies!
I see her there, shouting and screaming over a dead person’s body! Why is she crying? What makes her cry? Who is she crying? Who is that man beneath her? She is saying something, as I see her mouth working in the mid of those tears. She is beautiful. She is... then I know fire, all around me. Gulping and taking me to its gallows. What is happening? But before the hot messenger of hell devours me in its dark depth, I hear the girl crying out in agony, traitor! Come back, Ahiiiiiiiiii....,
With a snap, my eyes fly open, and I sit up straight on my bed, wiping the cold sweat from my face and forehead, I gulp down the entire full glass of water before keeping it back on the table. Heaving a big sigh of relief on the realisation, that I was dreaming, I get up from the bed and make it inside the washroom. Switching on the light, I splash some water on my face and straightening up; I look myself in the mirror. Oh God,
I whisper as I pull some hair locks back. I had that hideous dream again. Since I hit puberty, this dream has constantly been disturbing me a lot. For another minute, I keep on glaring at my face, which has lost its sleepy look and has taken all the features of mum. Rashi, Rashi,
I hear someone on the door and rolling my eyes to the ceiling; I get out of the washroom, walk up to the door, pull it and let Khanak inside. Hey,
she takes my hand in hers and says, "Aaagh bituassssoai mishhassss? (What happen? I heard you screaming!)
Simhasss adantosss hanatuissss, (I am fine. Had a bad dream, that’s it.)" She measures my temperature by keeping her palms on the forehead and then touches my cheek, You are so warm. Must have been a hell of a dream,
Yes,
I say and see her smiling, as she pats my cheeks and says, Hold it. I’ll get you hot tea. It’s already six in the morning,
Six in the morning?
I look at her alarmed and turn to bedside clock. Indeed, it is six in the morning. Going to the window side, she removes the curtain from their face and let the sun rays flood inside the room. O, Shiva! It is morning in its full splendour, and Khanak turns to me again. Get ready, till the time I get you tea.
Smiling and sighing as she closes the door behind her, my gaze falls on the bedside table where I see the silky invitation card lying:
Let the Holy Ganesha add grace to the beautiful occasion.
Let the mighty Shakti bless our path together as we hold the future in our hand.
I, Vasudev Subedar, along with Veer and Shobha Makhija, invite all your friends and family members for the holy nuptial ceremony of
Naina Ulhas Parth
And
Avinash Shaurvi Garud Subedar
Grace the service with your presence and bless the young couple for their fruitful future.
Programme follows:
Garland Ceremony: 7 p.m
Holy rounds: 8 p.m
******
I keep the thing on one side, and my gaze lands on the second paper. It is a letter:
Rashi,
It is stupid to tell you the reason for this letter. I believe, you must have seen the invitation letter. After so many years, months and days of fawning over the boy, I am finally getting married to him. You have always been the friend; I have looked up to, whether in a time of need or in a time of happiness. I want you to come and see the biggest day of my life. It is not every day, you see your friend getting married. Ulhas is no more. I will tell you the entire story when you will come here. After you left school in that mysterious way, I kept on reminiscing about the reasons behind your withdrawal but couldn’t come up with any. I hope, Mussoorie is as cold as it has always been. Rashi, there has not been a single day, when I have not missed your presence in my life. Please, Ra; come to Paudi, for my sake.
Naina..."
I close my eyes and feel the silent tear escaping their corner. The barricade of the mind is let down, and memories break out of their limit. Too much has happened and so much time has vanished from my hands.

On the breakfast table, as I make myself seated and start spreading the butter on the loaf, I hear a voice, You are late!
I halt in my actions and look up to the person. Koham Rathod, ahead of a police officer of the Mussoorie district of Uttarakhand, and my dad is one of the strict and the most disciplined person in the entire house. He wants everything on time. Breakfast, lunch and dinner! Going to bed and waking up on time and various other activities... Sorry dad,
I say and then amazingly see him getting up from the seat, moving to my side and telling me in strict words. Before I forget it, this is for you,
he hands me a sparkly gift in my hand. Happy birthday Rashi,
I nibble my lower lip beneath my upper teeth and look up at him, Thanks, Dad,
"Don’t forget
