TODAY is my day. After all these years, quietly waiting, wondering if this day would ever come, finally it is here. It has been planned down to the finest detail and I know it’s going to be just perfect.

It’s spring outside, a beautiful fresh day, that speaks of new beginnings and gives hope for what’s to come. In the small porch of this lovely country church I wait with my father and my sister, my heart pounding so much that it must surely be visible through the thin silk of my dress.

The organ is playing, the birds are singing, the sun is shining – I could have asked for no more.

“It’s not too late to change your mind,” my father says, smiling.

He knows it won’t happen and so do I. Although I’m unaccustomed to taking centre stage,
