Love Through Cobra's Eye 3 - Kimaya Mathew

    PROLOGUE

I wish I had seen pain crossing her eyes, as I said those words to her. I know she had suffered a lot, seen a lot. I know, once, I was her enemy. But, for now, I was happy to see her in such glitter, fashionable dress. I have never seen her in any other outfit, apart from, those t-shirts and jeans, she uses to wear. Such luxurious outfit, actually, suited her. And that ring, I mean to say Cobra’s ring on her hand, really suited her. Somebody had once said to me, all that goes well, ends well, too!

    Rashi

Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, I use to spend my summer’s here, once. That time, dad was alive. As I set up my room, according to my needs, Granny entered it with a charming smile on her wrinkled face. Ra, she hesitated Got tea for you, have it before it gets cold. Sitting on the bed, with her by my side, I said Nani (Indian version of maternal grandmother), there was no need to take so much pain for me, I am fine looking around me, with a dissatisfied expression on her face, she turned to me Rash, don’t do this to yourself child. If you want, I can open other room for you, that is much spacey and airy, then this one.

After mum’s cruel death, and leaving Mussoorie forever and ever, I had shifted myself to Doon valleys where, my maternal grandmother, Kalyani Mathur stayed, in her small farmhouse. She lived on the city side, where she had some cattle’s, a stable, and a dog living with her. It was basically, a ranch she owned. The village, where the farm was situated, also belonged to her and my grandfather, who was dead, too. The natives of the place called her Kalyani Ma, adorable. I was, of course, familiar to everyone. When mum, dad and me, use to visit this place back in my childhood, villagers always got delighted, by our arrival. Folks here were of innocent heart, mind and soul. The area was just getting developed. Unlike Mussoorie, it was not that well, highly developed. But yes, a person could have a little peace of mind here. It had taken a great deal of time on my part, to finally; shift myself from, my much loved, hills. It had been difficult to leave a place where you have spent your childhood and half of your adolescent. But it had become kind of necessary for me, to take that step.

I have taken one month, entirely, to settle in this place. I don’t know why, but, I felt a certain sense of belonging here. It felt strange, sweet! In the beginning, when I had only arrived here, I felt, as if, I have come to an alien place. Time, I thought, it takes time. I had decided on one part though, and that was, to spend my life in social service for the community, especially for the village folks. But, there was one person, who had helped me a lot, in this rough time. He was, Shesh Chauhan.

Shesh was the only person, who helped me in shifting. He had made all the arrangements. From packers and movers to my monthly income, in other words, he had portrayed the role of a friend, in its pure form. He had helped me, a lot. Though I have left the job, still, Shesh had given me the task of writing articles, of various kinds, for company purposes.

Nani complained that I have forgotten to smile. I wanted to tell her the reason why that has happened. But, I guess, it was useless. Considering, that she will never understand, I have taken up the job of a school teacher, in the local village school. The building was not significant, or you can barely call it, a school. I had nearly seven children, in my class. People in the villages were still reluctant to send their child to school.

Nani was adamant, for this job of mine. She said that we had sufficient money, to support two women’s. But, according to me, I still wanted to do a job. Even if, my distance learning was always out of the question, then too, I wanted my
