CHAPTER ONE
The LOVE of FOOD
I can resist anything but temptation. (Oscar Wilde)
Whenever I encountered fat or obese people they always mentioned how much they love food. And, on the other hand, I don’t know of many people who do not like food. We needed for your body to survive and we needed on a daily basis.
The difference in this statement is love and like. I think that most people have the same taste buds as any other person. Let say that 50% of the people have normal taste buds and 25% have great taste buds and 25% have low taste buds or are non-tasters. (Source: on Dr.OZ)
What tastes sweet and sour for one also tastes sweet and sour to others in general for the most part. Let’s say for argument sakes, that we love food on four different levels. Some love food to excess, some love food, some enjoy food and some like food. Very few are indifferent.
Which category do you think you fit in? If it is the first one, I would call it gluttony for identification purposes.
Let’s call a spade a spade.
Overweight people have at some point had food to excess for a long period of time. Ate more than required and the body have stored it and accumulate it and it shows. It’s called; FAT.
I think the first culprit about food is that we have too much of it. The quantity of food is more damaging that the quality.
If you wait until you feel full to stop eating, it is already too late. It takes time from your mouth to your stomach (20 minutes) and if you are not paying attention, you will over eat, simple as that. That is why it is so important to eat slowly and masticate and take the time to enjoy.
Some people, some fat people will say; it is so good, I want more. WRONG. You are nourishing your body not eating everything that tastes good. You live for food while you should have food to live. Nourishment is part of your life, not all your life. There is no point of having more that day since you can easily have it tomorrow and spread your calorie intake in two days or several meals as oppose to gluttonize. You are not supposed to eat until you are full and can’t eat another bite and loosen up your belt. That is a NO, NO.
Why are we so inclined towards sugar? The worst food of all? Because it is rewarding to the system and let’s face it, sugar is also addictive. We give cookies to kids for a reward or we bring them to the ice cream parlor for some treats. Would you bring your kids every day to the parlor? No you wouldn’t, even if they have been good for days on. Why do you treat yourself to donuts, cream puffs and the likes? Because you think you deserve a treat from the lousy life you have as an obese person.
You’re uncomfortable, people don’t necessarily like fat people, you’re repulsive as oppose to attractive. The word repulsive might shock you but if you look at the definition in the Webster dictionary, you will find that word: it’s contrary to attractive. You don’t feel sexy and you are not, and of course, you are lonely.
The rewards are crutches, compensating. You don’t need rewards and if you do, time outside in the sun for a brisk walk will do more for you rather than eating a donut.
Fresh air, vitamins from the sun will do a lot more good than eating. The excessive love of food or candy is a compensation for a bigger problem within you. Find that problem and solve it.
Ever thought that obese people eat out of discouragement because of the results of being fat brings them? Quite a paradox.
It is common knowledge and evident that heavy drinkers are hiding from reality or escaping from a situation that they don’t want to face. Divorces and separations lead most men to the bar and women to the psychologist or the bakery. It could be guilt, loneliness, ad-mission of failure or all the above and you want to disconnect from that reality.
Will power is to be conscious of your daily choices.
How do you get the will to turn your back on sweets and go exercise? STOP. Ask the question before acting. Do I really need those calories? Grab your stomach with both hands and ask yourself; I’m I really hungry? I’m sure you will say no and turn around. Close the fridge or keep your change for the lottery, not the vending machine.
In other words, you have to stop and think and this why it is all in your mind. WILL POWER.
You have to think about the longer benefits or the disadvantages, rather than the immediate gratification.
I’ve heard some fat people say; if I get lost in the woods, I will survive longer if I carry fat on me. How’s that for an insecurity statement? Do I need to explain? The guy that told me that 40 years ago on a fishing trip, weighs 300 pounds today, and has major mobility problems. Technically, he is an invalid because of his weight.
That is probably why (insecurity) most poor people are fat in comparison to the well-off people. The rich are much less insecure they could buy the ice cream manufacturer if they wanted to. But they don’t. They rather stay healthy to enjoy life; remaining active with a healthy weight.
They don’t mind being strict with them because being healthy comes first. We know why the poor are insecure; afraid of being hungry, afraid of being thirsty, of being reposes, expelled, getting sued, getting fired, afraid, afraid. Maximum insecurity.
Statistics show that poverty and under education is inversely related to obesity. Just compensating for something they don’t have; control. So, they pig out.
I won’t start psychology 101 here, but you get the picture.
By the way, most people wouldn’t feed their pets (most poor people have pets to support) with some of the stuff they eat. They know that only balance dog and cat food is good for them and that jelly beans and cupcakes are not. Why do you consume those again? Think!
In the food section I must say that most nutritionists will disfavor red meat as opposed to any other meats. I think red meat gives me the rage (kidding). There is a lot of fat in red meat and you should have it not more than once a month.
Poultry and fish (Omega 3) his better for you. I also like pork and I do find it
