For centuries, Thistlewood Manor has stood as home to the Montagu family, a beacon to British aristocracy in rural England. But it’s 1928, and in this new age of women’s rights, Eliza Montagu, 27, a free spirit, has turned her back on her family to live an artist’s life in London.
Yet after Eliza is summoned home, she decides to stay (for now) to help her father run the ailing family business. The presence of her childhood best friend, Oliver, also gives her a reason to stay, as she wonders if their unfulfilled romance might ever come to fruition.
The time has come, it seems, for Oliver to finally propose, and Eliza is ecstatic. Finally, her whole life seems to come into place.
Until Eliza catches Oliver with his ex.
His ex ends up murdered.
And all eyes point to Eliza.
Can Eliza, arrested, clear her name? And with her sisters’ and the servants’ help, find the true killer?

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I was so disappointed that they chose an AI narration instead of Jo Ashe’s charming voice and style. The speed of the narration seems to be set at 1.5x normal as well. Appalling!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have enjoyed this series, but just as the above reviews have mentioned the use of a digital or ai narrator with this book was both annoying and disappointing. If I had not wanted to listen to this book so bad I would not have persisted.
Having slowed it down to .7 may have improved the voice but it did nothing to help the squawks and noises that accompanied the recording. If the story hadn’t have been so compelling, I would have given it 0 stars.
Listener beware (particularly when using headphones) - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story is cute and entertaining. It’s the synthesized voice that is annoying. Little to no change of voice tone when speaking as different characters- primary male is spoken as if he is a young fragile female!
And there are quite a few sounds or squawks or editing issues that make unpleasant sounds throughout the audio book.
Too bad- don’t know if I want to continue with the series if they are all done with a synthesized voice.1 person found this helpful
