About this audiobook

Kalisa Kinigi survived genocide as a child. Now, she struggles to make a life in Middle America, trying to overcome the emotional wounds of those unimaginably evil times.

But something from that distant place has awakened, finding its way back into Kalisa's life and destroying everything she has tried to accomplish. A vicious creature lives on the edge of her everyday world, leaving shattered victims in its rampaging path as it comes ever closer to her broken family.

To defeat this menace, Kalisa must try to unify her fractured relations, hoping that modern bonds of blood will be enough to overcome a wicked terror from her unsettled past.

This was my first thriller/suspense book. Ever. And I loved the plot and details. I felt like I personally knew the characters and it did keep me on the edge of my seat. The ending was cheeky and perfect but left it open for your mind to wonder if there will be more to come. And adored the narrators voices and perfectly paired for the story. Will definitely be looking into other stories by this author and narrator.

Interesting and well done by both author and narrator. The narrator, an excellent choice, really enhanced the story, and the author gave him a perfect canvas to do it with. This had just enough horror, strong character development, and great visuals. The ending was a little predictable but not a deterrent. Great story for a quickie.

Kalisa survived a genocide which took the lives of her mother and brother. While hiding from the killers she sees something horrific among the bodies. 30 years later she's a single mother, working to support her son and suddenly people around her start disappearing. I liked the way Kalisa was portrayed. She has a number of personal issues but when her family is under threat she becomes the hero they need, and her Dad is pretty cool too. The ending has a satisfactory twist but is a little heavy on the exposition.
