About this audiobook

As a cartography student, Jak has always dreamed of finding the lost dragon gate and exploring and mapping distant worlds.

Developing magical powers and becoming a powerful wizard? Not a chance.

Wizards are cruel and inhumane, warring with each other from their great sky cities and keeping most of humanity enslaved. Jak wants nothing to do with them.

But when he and his archaeologist mother unearth the gate, they attract the attention of the very wizards they sought to avoid. Even more troubling, Jak starts developing magical powers of his own, powers that could rival those of the great rulers.

Fate may have given him the opportunity to change the world.

But the wizard rulers don’t like change, and when they detect threats, they send their elite assassins to eliminate them.

If Jak can’t unlock the power of the gate, and the powers within himself, the world will remain enslaved forever.

Nope. I was intrigued with the concept of the book however (trigger warning) , when the madge king or whoever had human sex slaves that appeared to be 14-15 years old and he had a incense that was drugging everyone I quit listening. I don't get the good reviews after hearing that part.

Another fantastic series with well written characters and plots. Great humour, a touch of romance and lots of adventure. What’s not to love? Brilliant.

I like this narrator, and I love the storyline. This author doesn’t mess up with facts and doesn’t leave loose ends. She makes great characters.

Until now, I’ve loved everything that I’ve read by the author. And, this series has some really great aspects.

However, there is so much sexual assault — including references to children as victims. It’s too much. It is completely unnecessary for the plot, and overall it’s a good plot. The constant references in this and in at least the next book are too much.

    This was absolutely stunning book.
I love that there is not a single hero, just a bunch of clever people doing what they are good at.
I love that they are not the usual" special 17 years old beautiful girl that doesn't know her destiny" trope.
The story is compelling and adventurous.
Can't wait to see where are we going I the next one.
Hat down to the author and to the voice actor.

The simultaneous disparate dual plots building steadily coalescing and unifying into climax is twisty, gipping and masterful. A delightfully vivid front row seat into this magical world.

Another fabulous book by Lindsay Buroker. And as always, Vivienne Leheny is a narrator extraordinaire. The characters are delightful . I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

This was a slow build up but by the middle all the way to the end I was hooked and rooting for man, vidar Malik and mercenaries all at once. Not bad at all
