About this audiobook

This program is read by the author.

"Read by the author, a talented and animated fantasy narrator who also voiced Legends, the book presents a colorful cast of new and familiar characters that is sure to ensorcell and delight listeners." —Booklist

When an injury throws a young, battle-hungry orc off her chosen path, she may find that what we need isn't always what we seek.

Set in the world of New York Times bestselling Legends & Lattes, Travis Baldree's Bookshops & Bonedust takes us on a journey of high fantasy, first loves, and second-hand books.

Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned.

Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it.

What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do?

Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Still, adventure isn't all that far away. A suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons prove Murk to be more eventful than Viv could have ever expected.

“Take a break from epic battles and saving the world. This is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug. This is my new comfort read.”—Genevieve Gornichec, author of The Witch's Heart, on Legends & Lattes

A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Books.

Editor's Note

Cozy fantasy treasure…

Viv is a steadfast orc barbarian. So when she’s wounded and sent to recover in a small coastal town, she’s not happy about it. But as Viv gets familiar with the local proprietors and grows accustomed to their quiet ways, a new side of the warrior begins to emerge. Baldree’s prequel to “Legends and Lattes” is another cozy fantasy treasure filled with community and heart.

I've listened to e-books that this author has narrated. So I was intrigued to find out that he also writes. Turns out Travis Baldree is a clever author that weaves some current day situations into a witty fantastical reality. Fun and entertaining.

A wholesome prequel with teeth to Legends and Latte's. Another cozy fantasy perfect for cool days by the fire or by the beach enjoying the day.

I loved getting to know the young Viv and her life before settling down and opening her coffee shop. It's such a bittersweet ending and while I don't reread novels often, this one I definitely will.

Not bad. More of a fan of Legends & Lattes and hoping there will be a book 2 from the way this ended.

A nice little cozy read with lovable characters. I wanted a break from long reads with a lot of lore and this was just the thing.

I didn’t think that Travis could out do Legends and Late’s but, I was wrong. This book was amazing. I was immediately left with a warm, happy, feeling, especially after the epilogue with the connection from his last book, Legends, and Lattes.

Not a bad listen. The writing and grammar is all well done, so no complaints on that side of things. I think my own main issue is one of personal taste. The story is a slow burn more focused on characters than events, and that's okay because that is literally what the author advertises the book to be. I just personally wished that towards the end, things became a little more focused up on the situation that comes around.

But don't regret listening to it.
