About this audiobook

As he looked at life…

…surrounded by the trappings of success…

Austin wondered, is there anything else?

He made it to the top. As CEO of an asteroid mining company, Austin has accomplished everything he ever wanted in business. Now, he needs more. To get away he turns to a fantasy video game.

Is virtual reality the answer?

Should he pick, elf, gnome, caster or swordsman?

He just wants peace and quiet, play as a dwarf, build a house, do some smithing, and character building. His idea of the perfect fantasy game. Then he learns their secret.

Deceit hides in the shadows.

And the truth is all around.

Austin will need to level up.

If he gets caught, it means death. He’ll need help along the way. How can he convince anyone they’re slaves in a bigger game and stay under the radar? If Earth was a simulation and the game was real.

Who can he trust?

You’ll get hooked on this first book (of eleven) in the Emerilia LitRPG series, because the characters grow and advance in the most believable of ways and the plot twists are fantastic.

Any sufficiently advanced virtual reality makes it indistinguishable from reality.

Austin Zane leaves behind his CEO position with RB Corp to play Dave, a half-dwarf in the Virtual reality game Emerilia, trying to escape his life. What Dave doesn’t know is that Earth as he knows it, is really a virtual reality simulation and Emerilia is a world imbued with futuristic technologies to mimic early MMORPG’s. He just wanted peace and quiet, to build a house, do some fishing, to take some time to find himself once again. What he found out instead was a cause, he found out the biggest lie of his life. He found out the truth about Emerilia and the lies of Earth.

This book was awesome! precisely the sort of story i like to read. If I had to interrupt down the purpose of this book during a few words i'd say it's all regarding "the process". this can be one among those "the journey is a lot of necessary than the destination" kind of books. this can be for the those that feel that learning one thing is healthier than simply knowing something. i like stories like this, during which the most character brings you on on the journey of building power and learning. That way, within the end, once he uses that power, I have a larger appreciation for what he went through and the way perceive the characters limits. If you're the sort of person who simply desires action and doesn't prefer to examine character building or training, then this can be not the book for you. However, if you are like American state and you like that sort of story, you would like to travel out and find this book right away. i'd say if you wish The Land series or the approach of the priest series, you'd positively like this series.

This story is the reverse of most LitRPG stories out there. during this book folks within the "real world" live boring lives and that they attempt to escape their boring lives by taking part in the net game Emerilia. the reality is that Emerilia is real and also the Earth is that the virtual world. The Jukal empire had defeated the humanity and was near to destroy them for good, however one person had the thought to use the human race to fight their alternative enemies. however does one make them do that? you create them suppose it's solely a a game so they need no worry and notice it fun. The Jukal empire has the data and power to make what seems to be magic, so that they seed the globe of Emerilia with all the magic and creatures one would expect, and even enable the players to re-spawn.

there's another excuse this book is that the reverse of most Lit RPG books out there. sometimes in those books, the most character includes a sucky life and needs to travel into the sport to be a giant hero and save the day. during this story though, the main character Dave is the wealthiest person on Earth, associate degreed he desires to travel into the sport so he are often left alone and work on building things again. Since his company is so widespread now, he spends most of his time in conferences and doesn't get to create things anymore.

sometimes once a player begins to suspect that their world isn't real and that they don't log off, an AI can go and delete their character, therefore killing them. during this case though, the AI can't try this as a result of Dave' company is so huge then tangled within the planet that if you disappeared into the sport for too long, his presence would be missed. so associate degree AI was sent to inhabit his body whereas he's in Emerilia. a strong being involves tell Dave that his world isn't real (think the matrix), therefore Dave decides to remain in Emerilia and ne'er goes back to Earth. He will try this owing to that AI that's dominant his body and isn't any longer observance however usually he is in Emerilia.

not like most players that come back to the present world rather than finding quests and attempting to run into danger, he goes and builds a house. whereas doing that he runs into a gaggle of Dwarf NPCs (except they'ren't very NPCs, they are real) and makes friends. For a decent quantity of time, Dave is happy. He has friends and he builds his house, he learns skills, and so forth Then alternative players show up. What does one do once managing those that suppose this world is simply a game and that they will do no matter they require as a result of "Its only a game". He isn't ready to tell them something or justify that Emerilia is real then are all the NPCs which earth is that the game.

Many books build up to what is supposed to be an epic final showdown. This does not disappoint. It's long enough to feel epic without dragging, there are surprises, strong enemies, losses, and doesn't end because of a stupid trick. It feels earned.

It was an ok story. The narrator did a great job.
My biggest beef is an overly Whitney emo for an MC
