About this audiobook
While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.
Until the day the police arrived at their front door.
Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.
Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.
Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.
As long as they don't look in her basement.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So so sooo good!!! Definitely kept me reading from page 1 through the end. Chef kiss
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thought I knew “who done it” a few times and I was wrong. Good story. Good narrating.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The narrator is horrible. Who approved her. Definitely hurt the story for me. The storyline besides the narrator was decent. It's not the best of freidas but not terrible.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book was good but the narrator, Shaina Summerville needs training. Her character voices are inconsistant and, to be honest, bland, boring, and annoying. It really took from the enjoyment of the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I did like the book. I did have to get used to the narrator. I’m so surprised that I actually knew who it was! Yay me!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome book. Great twist as always. Love these books so much.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing. Twists and turns all the way through. Must read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kept you guessing until the very end- which is what you want in a thriller! Good story & characters. Appreciated the prologue.
(Only criticism was the narrator’s whiny voice! Super irritating especially when she would use inflection for emphasis.) - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story line was ok. For the main character being a surgeon she made some really stupid choices. The narrator voice was awful. Ava e yourself the time and skip this one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Like everyone else I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. I stoped listening at like chapter 10 and just read it my self and it was amazing. The end was a complete twist that I didn’t see coming at all with the killer. The prologue was a twist too.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Narrator is annoying. It’s a good storyline but her voice is screeching and too breathy. I’m gonna finish because I want to know the end but I will not listen to anymore with that narrator.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5
Very interesting and suspenseful book. What a surprise ending. Wow! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/54 to 5 star story - as many others have said the narrator is awful to listen to so would suggest trying to find another audio version or just reading the physical book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nora is a thriving surgeon, her father imprisoned for his heinous crimes, and her dark secret safely concealed. However, Nora's carefully built world shatters when one of her young patients meets a gruesome fate, mirroring her father's signature style. Someone out there is aware of her haunting past, and they're determined to frame her for this unimaginable crime.
This is my second Freida McFadden book, and it was just as I expected. It's the perfect "popcorn thriller", that keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat until the very end. Will be reading more of her books. Thank you Netgalley, Freida McFadden, and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an ARC. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good twist! I guessed totally wrong. The narrator was pretty awful though!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love it!!!!! Sooooo good!! It definitely had me second-guessing myself and then the twist, and I was actually wrong! I love when I am wrong and when I find out I was right. Freida's books are my new favorite!!!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The story gets a 3 or 3.5, but the narrator absolutely ruined the audiobook version. She was horrible. Her voice was grating, especially when she attempted male voices. It just sounded like she was trying too hard, and it was pretty irritating to listen to. I think it made the main character/narrator more unlikeable than I otherwise would have thought if there had been a different narrator or I had read a print copy.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Interesting Plot - would recommend it’s an absolute must read
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I barely got into the 1st chapter and was not feeling the voice chosen to read this book. It’s kind of aggressive in a way. It’s hard to describe. Kind of like the previous review it sounds unnatural.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Like all of her books they are intriguing stories that keep you guessing and the ending is always a shock
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is the 4th Freida book I've read and for some reason, this one took longer for me to get in to. The ending (as always) kept me guessing and I never saw it coming. Haven't read a Freida McFadden yet that I didn't love but this one wasn't my personal fave. But still, 3 1/2 stars from me.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a good book, but not her best. I suspected who it was a few chapters before the reveal. The narrator had an annoying voice. The narrator did NOT have a good male voice.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I had to quit listening bc the narrator tried way too hard. Her voice is very annoying & over the top. Definitely ruined this book for me & that’s upsetting bc I’ve loved all of the books by Freida McFadden I’ve read so far.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great read, and the author is now one of my favorite
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved the book, narration was could have been a lot better.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Great book. The low rating solely on the terrible narration. I almost stopped listening!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book is good because well is Freida McFadden but the woman who narrates the book is annoying!! I also DNF’ed the audio and switch to buying the book because she was getting on my nerves. I finally change the speed to 1.5 and that helped.
Like all Frieda’s book, I always think I have the killer pinned down and I always find out I’m wrong. That’s why I love her books she always throws me for a loop. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The narrator expressed every line in the right expressions. Book was also excellent. The twists are sooooo good.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was ok. Good story line. Voices were terrible. Not good at all.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great story but this narrator’s voice was very unnatural. Strange inflection. Made me lose focus quite a few times.
