About this audiobook

New Orleans: city of intrigue, supernatural secrets, and one enigmatic dragon.

A deadly curse . . . For 300 years, Gabriel Blakemore has survived in New Orleans after a coup in his native realm of Paragon scattered him and his dragon siblings across the globe. Now a voodoo curse threatens to end his immortal existence. His only hope is to find an antidote, one that may rest in a mortal woman.

A lifesaving gift . . . After five years of unsuccessful treatment for her brain cancer, death is a welcome end for Raven Tanglewood. Her illness has become a prison her adventurous spirit cannot abide. Salvation comes in the form of Gabriel, who uses dragon magic to save her.

A harrowing price . . . To Raven, the bond that results from Gabriel's gift is another kind of captivity. Can Gabriel win Raven's love and trust in time to awaken the life-saving magic within her? Or will his fiery personality and possessive ways drive her from his side and seal his fate?

Good book, and I will definitely continue the series. I loved Genevieve Jack's other series when I read it years ago and am just rediscovering her newer works. Her stories are full of action, adventure, interesting characters and magics.

My only gripe was the narrator. If I am grading on a scale compared to many other narrators, he did a good enough job. He is clear and articulate, but... He reads like, well... a dorky dad reading a bedtime story. I don't know how else to describe it. Definitely NoT a romance narrator; listening to him read love scenes was... ick. And there was just something about the cadence of his speech, especially when reading dialogue, that felt off. It didn't fit the characters or the situations. It was almost as if he was trying to be comical (thus the "dorky dad" feel) when there wasn't anything funny. It was just weird and did not fit the narrative or the characters at all. So then the characters end up not quite ringing true. The romance, the stakes and danger, all of it felt a little silly when read like that.

I still enjoyed the story, but I really hope they hired a different narrator for the rest. ?

I absolutely loved this book. Gabriel a dragon who has been cursed by a wicked witch saves the life of Raven a terminally Ill cancer patient waiting to die so she can be free of pain and isolation. They have to find the answer in a bunch of grimoires Gabriel has collected at his antique business. As they work toward a solution, they get close and must fight ultimate evil or die trying.

Dragon shifter romance. Liked the humor but not the manipulation. Strong heroine found her strength
