About this audiobook

A dragon prince. A vampire heiress. A kiss that could bring Chicago to its knees.

For decades he's posed as a human . . .

It's been a long time since Tobias spread his wings. The exiled dragon prince has worked hard to blend into the human world and practice his love for healing as a pediatric cardiologist.

She awakens the dragon within . . .

As a vampire-human hybrid, Sabrina is used to being different from the rest of her community. But all vampires need to feed. The night she chooses Tobias as her next meal, everything changes. He's far more than he seems, and if she doesn't protect his secret, it could cost him his life.

Can love remind him of who he truly is?

One kiss thrusts Tobias into the dark underground world of Chicago's vampires, where his dragon nature is his only hope of protecting Sabrina. But Sabrina knows the only way to keep him safe is to push him away.

Contains mature themes.

This is a follow on from the first book and the characters are very much involved with Tobias and Sabrina's storyline.

Tobias and Sabrina in terms of personality are very different. Tobias is happy to take a step back and not be the leader of a group. His role at work requires him to be the decision maker and out of that he's happy to live a less chaotic life. Sabrina is a bit scatterbrained and all over the place with her decisions. She has a loud personality and is the complete opposite of Tobias. Their match wasn't great and I couldn't see the connection between them. There was less spice and steam in this book compared to book one but even if it was just as spicey and steamy I most likely wouldn't have been that interested because I wasn't connected to Tobias and Sabrina.

As I listened to the audio it was very unclear whose POV we were listening to until we were into the chapter. We learn more about Gabriel and Raven in this book which I found odd since it's not their book and I shouldn't look forward to their chapters more than the main characters.

Tobias who is a dormant dragon has been living as a human and a pediatric surgeon in the Windy City. He has a surprise visit from Gabriel and Raven who he helped get to Paragon. They are mated and he is wary of raven’s witch status. But now he is falling for a nurse who is a half human and half vampire. Sabrina is vampire royalty, her father is stepping down to conquer a new territory and leaving the Chicago underground kingdom to her. But Tristan her father’s second will not rest until he ascends but I order to do that he has to get rid of Sabrina. The more Tobias gets involved with Sabrina his brother and sister in law have trouble fill them too - and their trouble is his trouble. Can Sabrina walk away from their attraction, can he let her? I like all the sub plots in these dragon tails. 2 of 8 siblings connected.

DNF... This narrator! Gah! I can't listen to that snivelling voice he gives the females any more. He does this weird slurred speech thing with a high pitched whiny sound for the girls. And for the men, its not much better at all. They are, at best, effeminate, when he reads these supposedly big bad dragons voices. The whole cast sounds like they belong in a children's book, not a new adult PNR. Yuck!

As for the story, Raven (from the New Orleans story) is with Gabriel and a baddie is stalking them from Paragon. Rather than the bad@$$ witch & dragon dealing with one mean old dragon, they are hiding, supposedly trying to convince Gabriel's brother, Tobias, that mommie dearest has betrayed them to rule Paragon in an incestuous relationship with their uncle. But that plotline is completely buried by the newest "romance" with Sabrina, a vamp/human hybrid princess of the equivalent of a vampiric Chicago mob. Oh, and Tobias and Sabrina are doctors, so that particular tidbit sets them at a hospital often, cause thats not weird and sort of anachronistic at all. Tobias is supposed to be a type-A personality, super orderly and stiff. Sabrina is able to "drink" emotions like she drinks blood, and thats about all the unique characterization she gets. Of course, the dragon/vamp relationship is forbidden and naturally, its 100% insta-love for Tobias, after which he becomes a two-dimensional doormat/ Neanderthal about his woman. Frankly, its predictable and the narrator brings a special kind of annoying to the whole ensemble.

Genevieve Jack's 'Ghost in the Graveyard' series was one that got me hooked on ebooks years ago, so I came into this series with high hopes. I tried to overlook some of the issues with the first book in this series, but I can't listen to this mealy-mouthed narrator for one more word. I may try to read a written copy later after I stop shuddering and forget how much this guy's ASMR mouth sounds make me want to break things, but I don't know. This series may be over for me. I only gave it an extra star out of loyalty to Jack for her prior work. Maybe this is just a fluke made insufferable by the narrator.
