About this audiobook

Hot on the heels of a nasty break-up, Natalie’s truck dies and strands her deep in Louisiana’s sweltering backwoods. A glow beyond the trees and a haunting melody lead her to what she hopes is salvation.

The Shivaree is more than a bar. It’s a mysterious oasis where people go to escape into a cold drink and lose themselves against a warm body on the dance floor. Gabriel is its resident musician, gifted with unnerving talent and intoxicating sexual charisma. The only thing standing between Natalie and the perfect rebound is Gabriel’s possessive and domineering lover, and Natalie’s not afraid of a bully. Certainly not one built like Shane Broussard. She’s ready to discover the perfect remedy for heartache—two hot male bodies, one long, sultry, southern night.

Editor's Note

Erotic and Intricate...

While escaping a bad breakup, Natalie winds up at a small bar in the South when her truck breaks down. Once inside, she meets Gabriel, a charismatic musician, and Shane, the bar’s owner. Gabriel and Shande are in a sexual relationship, and they invite Natalie to join them. McKenna’s sharp-edged, difficult characters are gorgeously depicted, and “Shivaree”’s trio is no exception.

Book is ok but its half the length it says as it finishes halfway through then they start reading it from the first chapter again. Very irritating.

Just started reading, but the narrator's fake accents are a joke, right? I love this author, so I'll continue to listen, but the storytelling is gonna have to pull all of the weight and I'll just imagine a sexy Latin/cajun man in my head.

Update: Finished. The accents didn't get better and this section of the story felt like it got cut off prematurely.

Ohh, this is a scorching hot book that is perfect for the bi-curious. Gabriel is written as an other-worldly musical muse. I’m here for it. Obsession and addiction for people is an erotic force that this author writes very well.

P.s. This book was somehow recorded twice—so you should know that it is much shorter than it claims.

    Perfect, succinct & steamy story.

I liked the book, but the female voice actor's accent for Gabriel was sooo bad. It was painful and so hard to enjoy the spicy parts of the book because it felt like she was doing a bit or something. Backwoods made him sound so sexy I was excited to listen to this one and the next but the bad accent from the voice actor kinda ruined it.

Well, this is a wonderfully well-written story by Cara McKenna, and I want to give it 5 stars because of how much I loved Shane’s tentative growth, but it wasn’t as satisfying and emotionally captivating as “Backwoods.” Natalie’s character felt quite flat and maybe not well-matched to the situation—there was just a little spark missing with her introduction to this dynamic. And sadly, from the information in this book, Gabriel just came across as an ass—though if you did read Backwoods first, you understand why and maybe don’t feel as much sympathy for Shane until near the end. Still it’s a great exploration of a complicated relationship between fairly well-matched, strong-will people, but frustrating because it’s almost too real in exploring how people would rather play games than admit their feelings or weaknesses.
