This is book 2 in a trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger. It's an original story, with flawed characters, morally grey and tormented but fantastic none the less. This book is so freacking romantic and I am baffled because Kit is gay. By all intents and purposes, she should not be falling for Preston.
To say that Preston and Kit's relationship is complicated is an understatement.
Preston is an addicted gambler, physically abused by his father as a child. He is constantly pushing people out with his rude behavior and harsh words, except for Kit.
Kit lost her parents when she was 8 and she has a strong survivor's guilt. She has a grandma who doesn't like her sexual orientation and constantly blackmails her into dates with men. She has been constantly used by her girlfriends because she's the kind to act first and ask questions later. She has a big heart and just wants to be loved and wears her heart on her sleeve. She is the perfect victim and Preston is the only one who doesn't take advantage of that.
There two have the most amazing relationship with some of the best hate to love banter, some of the funniest moments, some of the best sexually charged moments and some very frustrating decisions.
My only critique maybe is that Kit holds her sexuality as a shield. She lets herself be defined by it but there is so much more to people and relationships and self worth than that. She is stubborn that way and she constantly feels this need to defend herself and her sexuality with regards to her relationship to Preston.
I truly enjoyed this story. It is original and funny and the audio is amazing. Highly recommend it!

Started to lose interest during this second book. Maybe things just dragged on too long for me? As a Bi woman who has dated lesbians and been part of the LGBT community for decades, I really had mixed feelings on what the author did with the FMC. It was a little unbelievable to me that someone who was so firmly lesbian after having plenty of chances to decide that she was Bi and had suffered family disapproval and abuses due to being gay, would magically start to feel an attraction to a guy. I thought Jade wrote a strong lesbian main character and even reinforced how many times guys and her family tried to force her to be straight to all of the sudden have her change her sexuality? It just didn’t feel true to life to me for anyone I’ve known who has the same background. I also thought it could send the wrong message for those close to someone who are truly gay/lesbian that they just haven’t met the right person of the opposite sex yet no matter how adamantly they tell you they’re gay, reinforcing this hope of conversion.
