- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a novel, and there's a SERIES!! I like that Anya took actions in her hands and escaped from Darius, but hidden in another ship as a stow away would she spend another decade in another prison cell? I liked how Captain Sebastian, a demon and captain of the Marada took care of Anya when she almost died when she hid too long with nothing to eat or drink. Back on Darius's ship that only gave her scraps, some edible some not. Sebastian tried to ignore the oblivious when day after day he couldn't get the stow way out of his mind and he knew that she was hiding something and with a ship full of aliens he vowed to find out what.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Analia’s life was brutal, torturous, and horrific. It was worth risking death to escape her captors and if she could just make it off the ship and onto a merchant vessel, she could have her freedom. Hiding in the tiniest of crawl spaces amidst the ship’s wiring, weak from starvation, Analia has to make the decision to moan for help to survive or die quietly. When found and charged with being a stowaway, she embraces the chance at death by her own will. Denied this chance, Analia fears she is in captivity once again.
I enjoyed reading this steamy, science fiction fantasy novel! Analia really comes into her own and it was fascinating watching the transformation from determined-to-be free slave to bubbling curiosity about everything she’s not seen in 400 years to daring & confident woman ready to defend her newfound family, even at the cost of her own life.
I really want to know more about demons. I love stories with demons where the demons are NOT religious based. So many images flashed in my head as I was trying to determine what I thought Sonya, Cale, Malik, and Sebastian may look like.
This is a fast-paced adventure with steamy romance and characters with layers. Book one in the series and now I want to read the rest and see how Analia’s story continues in her quest & how her family develops! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5
For an author's first book and a first in a series, I really enjoyed it. It made me think of Star Trek and Firefly with a hot twist.
Analia has been a slave on a merchant ship for as long as she can remember. She doesn't know what species she is, nor where she came from. When an opportunity to escape presents itself, she doesn't hesitate to try (once again). She manages to sneak aboard another merchant ship and plan to hide until the ship makes its next stop and she can get off. There's just one teeny tiny problem - the ship is headed for a very long voyage, and nobody is allowed on or off the ship for the entire trip. (Un)fortunately for her, Sebastian, the ship's captain finds the petite stowaway. Oops.
Sebastian doesn't trust easily; not after his mother betrayed their people by selling them out to an invading enemy which ultimately enslaved his people and destroyed his planet. When he finds Analia, he's baffled at the immediate attraction, but he's determined to keep his distance. His plan would have worked if her skittish demeanor didn't hint at abuse and slavery in her past. She won't tell him who she's running from, nor will she tell him about her special gifts. As time goes by and they get closer, Sebastian comes to realise that she could be his one true mate. But how will she feel about becoming mated to a demon? Would she be willing to become the sole focus of an alpha male when all she has ever desired is her freedom?
When Darius, Analia's former captor, is suddenly hot on her heels, she'll risk everything to save the people she has come to love. To save Sebastian, she'll have to risk hurting him in the worst possible way.
I thought the plot was really good. In fact, I couldn't put the book down once I started. Ms Fay obviously did something right since she had me close to tears a few times (especially in the beginning when Bastian cuts a deal with Analia and she doesn't take the bait). Analia was quite endearing despite her naivete about certain things, but the story progressed at a believable rate for her to bloom into a more confident person. As a couple, I loved the H/H and their floundering with the surfacing of their feelings. Their "courtship" had a lot of sweet, tender moments despite their hang-ups. Sonya, Calic and Marik made an excellent supporting cast. I came to care for them so much that I can't wait to read their individual stories. Ms Fay also created an excellent villain in Darius - the description of his atrocities clearly showing him to be a megalomaniac. The drama and suspense towards the end had me biting my nails and left me eager to start the next book. I'm definitely going to stick with this series .
There were a few grammar/spelling mistakes that the editor might want to take care of, but they didn't bother me that much to distract me from reading.
