Description

We could spend a whole life seeking to know who we are. But this may not be possible with current technology as our brain's wiring patterns have aspects that can be found in my great grandparents, whether it is my taste for certain types of foods, lack of musical talent or mathematical expertise. Some of the brain circuits share features in mushrooms and bacteria. I will never know whether my resilience or stress reactions came from Great Aunty May or Great great Uncle Harry. The beauty of knowing that the brain is plastic, and can be changed with a lot of effort, means that the best I can hope for is to either retrain the brain or recreate myself (which can be good or bad) moving forward. Becoming aware of how little I understood about how little I knew about myself, was the first step to begin to change the parts that no longer served me well. Brain training offers us all hope that we can outstrip our past and rebuild a better future.Learn more at www.selenab.comThe podcast is built from my book SMASHING MINDSET.
