Description

No sensible discussion about body image can start without an understanding of Social Comparison Theory (SCT). We all compare ourselves, whether it is a physical trait, psychological quality, talent on finical value to others. The SCT looks at the pattern of those comparisons and the impact this has on our wellbeing and very importantly how this can affect our body image. In this special LFW episode, I invite psychologist and author, Kimberly Wilson on stage to discuss the social comparison theory and body image. Modelling and working in fashion comes with a lot of opportunities, but the tax young people pay for that is working in an industry where absolute strangers can critique your body. All day. Every day. In this kind of environment, our natural tendency to social comparison gets dialled up, which can put stain on relationships and the risk of self-objectification is real, affecting low self-esteem. Kimberly discusses the steps to take to help re address your values and how to create an anchor for your self esteem. This episode was recorded live at the LFW, Be Well Collective Wellbeing Summit 2020. For more information follow: @sarahannmacklin | @be_well_collective www.sarahannmacklin.com
