In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about ways on how to get rid of hangover. When you drink alcohol, it is mainly absorbed in the stomach and goes to the liver which has the enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase, which breaks it down into two different compounds:
1. Acetaldehyde – “toxic byproduct” – 30x more toxic than alcohol. This is what creates the damage to the liver and into the rest of the body and it is giving the symptoms of alcohol.
2. Acetate (similar to vinegar)
What can you do naturally to minimize the damage and quickly get rid of the side effects?
• Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) – It helps neutralize the toxic chemical and it also helps balance out glutamine.
• Take B1 before you go to bed and when you wake up to minimize the damage.
• B1 protects the cell especially the mitochondria against oxidation.
• Water – for the dehydration effect
• Vitamin C in a whole food form
• Leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables (Antioxidant)
