In this podcast, Dr. Berg answer the question about sugar alcohols making you fat. Sugar alcohols are compounds that are sweet and is derived from sugar but they don’t have the same response as sugar, they don’t spike insulin and also have less calories. The side effects of sugar alcohol happens when you consume excessive amounts or anything over 25 grams.
3 Big Side Effects from Sugar Alcohols:
• Bloat
• Gas
• Diarrhea
Another difference of sugar and sugar alcohol is, sugar gets a 100% absorbed in the small intestine and sugar alcohols do not get absorbed because it is dealt with the microbes in the large intestines. Sugar alcohol is absorbed slowly through the system but the microbes can fermented that causes gas and can also create water retention.
