About this ebook
In the Crucible for Service is a thought-provoking book by Professor Zacharias Tanee Fomum that explores the preparation and qualifications necessary for serving God. Using examples from the lives of biblical figures such as Joseph, Moses, David, and Jesus, the author emphasizes the importance of serving others before entering into God's service.

PREFACE
This book titled "In the Crucible for Service" is written by Professor Zacharias Tanee Fomum. In this book, the author examines the preparation necessary to enter into the service of God. Drawing from the examples of men of the Bible; Joseph, Moses, David and the Lord Jesus, the author highlights the fact that serving God must always be preceded by serving a man. Ministry is not only the overflow of the Holy Spirit, but also of the anointing. The person who will serve God must have a sense of destiny. With a sense of destiny, such a person becomes very meticulous about everything. He can no longer go anywhere any time. The person asks how each thing fits into the call of God and purposes of God for his life. The author invites whosoever will want to serve God to abandon sin, self-love, and the love of the world and the love of the things of the world so as to be a competent minister for God’s service
We recommend this book to you, dear reader, with prayer that the Lord will use it to prepare you to enter into His service.

YOUTH
FROM A TENDER AGE
From the tender age of twelve, Jesus entered the service of man. At thirty, he entered the service of his Father. At seventeen David entered the service of Saul. At thirty he entered state service. Joseph, around seventeen, entered the service of man and at thirty, he entered the service of the king. It is also around this age that Jacob entered the service of Laban. He was later to become Israel and all that that meant to God. all began early. That is youth; those precious years, when in the service of man a young man trains to serve God.
Let us look at David;
So Saul said to his attendants,
Find someone who plays well and bring him to me. One of the servants answered,
I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine looking man. And the Lord is with him. Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said,
Send me your son David, who is with the sheep. So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul. David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armour-bearers. Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, ‘Allow David to remain in my service, for I am pleased with him’
(1 Samuel 16:17-22).
You enter the service of a man in order to prepare to enter the service of God. The service of man, then the service of God. Moses entered the service of Jethro and later on the service of God.
THE PROBLEM WITH OUR YOUTH
The problem is that our present-day youth seem to enter nobody’s service during those tender years. This simply means that the church of tomorrow will be lacking in well-meaning leadership. If there will be some in the service of man, God will not lack servants.
When that period ends, the following has been accomplished:
The evil one has been overcome.
The Knowledge of God has been acquired; I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father
(1 John 2:13b).
Strength has been acquired.
The word of God has been brought to life in the young one.
There has been victory over the evil one: I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
(1 John 2:14b).
They have overcome the evil one inside so they may fight the enemy outside. They have won the battle over self so that they may fight the battles of God.
Thirty is the year of entering the call of God on your life, after spending years in the service of man. Solomon at thirty become king. David at thirty became king:
Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and travelled throughout Egypt
(Genesis 41:46).
At thirty entered the service of God in Cameroon. I had been serving and training in different circumstances. What you will enter into will depend on how you spent the earlier years.
The entry into the service of man followed by entry into the service c God is a divine order. At forty-five Caleb entered into the service of Moses and at eighty five into the service of the nation. At forty Joshua entered into the service of Moses, and at eighty he took on national responsibility.
THE TWO SERVICES
Note, there are two services. At whatever age you enter into the service of God, you must have been in the service of man. There first come the service of man then the service of God. The service of man comes first. as preparatory for public service, or the service of God.
The service of man is preparatory for promotion;
«Now the men Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my brothers who went up with me made the hearts c the people sink with fear. I, however, followed the Lord my Go wholeheartedly. So on that day Moses swore to me, the land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children for ever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’
Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old (Joshua 14:6-10).
Had he not been at the service of Moses, he would not be making this claim.
Of Samuel it is said,
The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions
(1 Samuel 3:1).
When Elisha met Elijah he did the following;
So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the ploughing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant.
(1 Kings 19:19-21).
The pattern is clear.
There exist three stages in a man’s life;
The time of spiritual childhood.
The time of youth - service of man.
The time of the service of God.
When men do not enroll into the service of man, they are confused the rest of their lives. Imagine Joshua without the years with Moses. Imagine that Joseph became Prime Minister at seventeen, without the experience at Portiphar’s house and the prison term.
The three stages could also be expressed thus:
There is the time of serving self
The time of serving a man
The time of serving God
Better still:
