There are principalities and powers that stand in the way of the gospel. In the Bible, God showed Daniel that there would be four principalities to stand in the way of Israel to prevent it from being the nation from which the Messiah would come. There was no nation of Israel at the time and Daniel went to war fasting and praying; the Bible tells us that the principalities were overthrown.

Daniel is one of the prophets who tackled principalities and powers for their overthrow — four principalities and powers. That is the only Bible equivalent of the kind of ministry the author, Z.T. Fomum carried out.

In 1987, after God had given him the goal of our ministry, the Lord now showed him the principalities and powers that would stand as obstacles to the accomplishment of the goal.

The overthrown of those principalities is the kind of ministry brother Zach carried out on behalf of God's purposes and our ministry.

    FOREWORD

    Dealing With Obstacles

There are principalities and powers that stand in the way of the gospel. In the Bible, God showed Daniel that there would be four principalities to stand in the way of Israel to prevent it from being the nation from which the Messiah would come. There was no nation of Israel at the time and Daniel went to war fasting and praying; the Bible tells us that the principalities were overthrown.

Daniel is one of the prophets who tackled principalities and powers for their overthrow—four principalities and powers. That is the only Bible equivalent of the kind of ministry brother Zach carried out. And the Bible shows that what was happening outwardly to the kingdom was the fruit of something that was happening in the spiritual realm.

The war against the prince of Persia was cruel. Daniel said that he fell and was almost dead. It was war, war: spiritual war against principalities and powers.

Daniel was wrestling with beasts; it affected him. He fell so ill that he could not go to work. It was the battle against principalities and powers. He was removing the obstacles for Israel to come back as a nation––the Messiah had to come.

Daniel was not in fellowship with the other Jews; he was in the top rungs of the civil service; but despite the outward circumstances, he overthrew all these principalities, finished his ministry all alone and died without setting his feet in the nation of Israel. None of the Israelites knew what it took for Israel to come back as a nation.

After that, the ministry of people like Nehemiah was possible because Daniel had removed the obstructing principalities and powers. Nehemiah could remove Sanballat and Tobiah. Those were the battles that preceded the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

They look like the battles that will precede His second coming.

The discipline of nations, and the intercession for the distinct purposes of God tied to a people, are aspects of the distinct ministry of a prophet as it was for Daniel. In our own case, a similar spiritual ministry was carried out. That is what triggered the battle against communism and that against the three hosts of wickedness.

Daniel took on the overthrow of principalities to overthrow them.

In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian kingdom—in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes (Daniel 9:1–3).

When Daniel read that Israel would be in exile for 70 years. He began to weep and supplicate for the restoration of Israel. Later, God used the prayer of Daniel to raise Nehemiah and Ezra to lead the people of God back to the Promised Land. The intercessor did not see the Promised Land again. He never returned to Israel. The answers to his prayer came. He was anxious for the glory of Israel and God heard him. People like Nehemiah could rise because Daniel had prayed while young.

His (Daniel’s) was a life poured out for God.

While Daniel was labouring and praying for the restoration of Israel, God began to show him:

    the kingdom of Babylonia,

    the kingdom of Persia,

    the kingdom of Greece,

    the kingdom of Rome.

So, the spiritual Daniel saw the obstacles against the accomplishment of God’s purposes.

Every day, during his fast, he would kneel and pray facing Jerusalem.

He used no lotions for three weeks and did not eat meat or any spiced food. It was a total fast to pray that the promises God gave would be accomplished. It was fasting, fasting, fasting, praying, praying, praying.

Daniel saw many strange animals (obstacles). Some had two horns—one looked like a shaggy goat with one horn on its eyes, and others.

All these animals represented the obstacles against Israel and against the coming of the Messiah. So, Daniel set out to war. As Daniel prayed, the archangel of the people of Israel, Michael, was sent forth to battle.

Then the mighty archangel responsible for God’s purposes tied to redemption—Gabriel was also sent into the fray.

Michael and Gabriel, through the prayers of Daniel, were both sent to war.

When Daniel started praying and God released the answer, the prince of Persia came and resisted the angel.

After a twenty-one-day-long battle, the angel from God overcame his opponent.

The prince of Persia was not a minor prince. This other Gabriel needed Michael’s help.

When this angel finished telling Daniel God’s answer to his prayers, he said to him, I am going back to the battle.

This angel told Daniel, Even when we finish with the Prince of Persia, the Prince of Greece will come. It was war because these were obstacles to the accomplishment of the purposes of God, to prevent Israel from becoming a nation, and thus prevent the Christ from being born and you from being saved.

That is what God called brother Zach specifically to, and that is the service he had to render to the Lord and the church in our generation.

He had to wrestle with principalities and powers.

There was communism that was a major blockage to Christianity.

There was Islam that was a major blockage to Christianity.

In that call, God was offering him promotion to be the spiritual leader of our generation, because it is the role of the leader to tackle things nobody else can.

In 1987, after God had given brother Zach the goal of our ministry, the Lord now showed him the principalities and powers that would stand as obstacles to the accomplishment of the goal. Brother Zach then entered a fast. It was in the course of the first forty-day fast in 1987 that the Lord showed him the principalities on the way. And the Lord told him that if the goal had to be accomplished, those obstacles had to be overthrown, for they were standing in the way of God’s purposes.

    There were four principalities:

    Communism

    Islam

    Paganism

    False Christianity

Brother Zach got into the overthrow of principalities and powers as the job he had to do for the accomplishment of the goal God had given us. At first, he did not know it was work he had to do alone.

In 1988, we started the fast against the Prince of Islam. God stopped it on the seventeenth day. God told Him, You are not ready for this battle; CMFI cannot get into it until you get to one million.

Brother Zach became anxious that we got to one million with God; it was not to compete with Redeemed church or Full Gospel church.

The call to get to one million came in 1990. That is when we started the missionary movement. These were not new things he was looking up to.

Sometime in 1997, smarting from our sloth in getting to his prescribed one million disciples, the Lord, told him he would undertake that battle alone as Joshua undertook the battle against Ai. The Lord showed him clearly that accepting that assignment meant that he would die. I am talking about blunt transactions. These were blunt transactions; they were not accidental.

The first time he started the fast, the fast had not gone ten days when he almost died in Varanasi, in India. The battle for principalities and powers is geared at removing obstacles on God’s way.

That is where it came from. We had co-operated with him for long until we dumped him along the journey. Most of the leaders abandoned standing with him in 1996. He, nevertheless, pressed forward and was faithful.

Finally, in 2004, the Lord told him that the outcome of this battle against the hosts of wickedness could not be settled in the normal bracket of fasting. It must be through supernatural (supra-long) fasts. It was a calling for greater sacrifice because during that time, the leaders who had stood with him had backslidden and started loving the world and considered all those transactions as follies.

Many were taken up with looking for security for their lives.

That is what determined the nature of the conflict for the overthrow of principalities. It was a call in 2004 to supra-long fasts.

Many of you believed that brother Zach was an extra fanatical person. You were fooling yourselves. You forgot he was a scientist, a man influenced by facts and earned a DSc which you do not have. He was a level-headed scientist who had financial accounts to prove he was a scientist; and many of you who claim to be wise do not have financial accounts. He had a lot of problems getting people to accept the supra-long fast of fifty-two days. He faced objections:

That was not the example of our Lord Jesus.

That was not a way which others have worked in church history.

How do I know? He came to Lagos to share it with me. He was not a fanatic. We just heard about a fast of fifty-two days.

God showed him from the scriptures that the wall of Nehemiah was finished in fifty-two days and that fasting was required to complete it.

It was finally the fifty-two days of Nehemiah’s wall—the battle of Nehemiah for fifty-two days to deal with the enemies of the revival of Israel—that gave him courage.

In 2007, the Lord told him, The supra long fast will not handle the battle; and the Lord talked to him about the supra fast to get them out of the way, by extreme sacrifice. Many people prayed before he started it. There is a sister in Yaounde who prayed for every minute of the 80-day fast before he started it. Many of us fasted.

God was very strict on him when he started the fast. God was strict about the kind of calcium he had to take so that he would not die. It was God’s battle and the people who were not interested in those battles of God woke up to criticise what they did not even know about.

He had a level head throughout the fast. It was the final battle against principalities and powers. During that fast he worked as he had never worked before. Why?

It was the labour for perfection so that no principality could change the desire to invest all; for what God demanded was sacrifice. He worked with every ounce of his energy and prayed with all his energy; it was total. And the Lord of heaven accepted the fast. He satisfied heaven.

If we believe, God will use us to have His harvest.

If you do not believe God, God will not lack those to bring in His harvest, nevertheless.

The final purposes of God and the shock harvest in our generation will be millions of Muslims turning to God.

The Lord spoke to Bill Bright that the obstacle to the gospel in our generation is the prince of Islam and that it would take 40,000 fasts of forty days to take him out of the way. He started the first 40-day fast. On the sixth 40-day fast, after he had written a letter to all the world, the enemy struck him with cancer and he died. We do not have the monopoly of revelation of God’s purposes.

Maurice C. prophesied many years ago that God had a burden in His heart for a man who would bring Him one billion souls from all the world; and Maurice C. is a pastor in Canada. He started to labour to be that man.

So, the things you hear, and you think CMFI has monopoly of, are the purposes of God. That is why the battle against principalities and powers started and that is how it unfolded.

I thought we should be celebrating a great victory that God raised a champion among us. It is victory. But some will believe even if they are lepers. The heavenly army will frighten the Syrians and the lepers will go and gather the spoils. Just be among those who will gather it. That was one of Daniel’s ministry: removing obstacles on the way of the accomplishment God’s purposes.

The last recorded ministry of Daniel is the mapping out of God’s purposes clearly: a prophecy to come true after 1,500 years.

Daniel had received a revelational road for Israel very clearly.

The joy is that Israel accepted the ministry of Daniel. The Maccabean started their war fully sure of the fact that what Daniel said would come true. It was joy. That is the kind of ministry brother Zach carried out on behalf of God’s purposes and our ministry:

    His academic distinctions,

    his professional distinction,

    his spiritual distinction,

his leadership have contributed to the accomplishment of God purposes.

Let us not throw away what we have laboured for.

Why give up the goal now that the obstacles have been removed?

The only author of that kind of thought is the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy; it shall not happen. I am explaining this so that if you want to walk through this way—the way of pursuing the goal God has given us—walk with confidence. If you want to go and labour for it, do so.

a lot has been invested into it:

    The principalities have been removed.

The prince of communism is out of the way. Now we can make someone proclaim one billion times that the prince of communism has been overthrown.

The prince of Cameroon has been overthrown. Satan was defeated on the cross of Calvary (and that is the first overthrow of principalities and powers).

Pray that God would make us appreciate what has been put into this nation, and that we would move along that pathway with confidence.

That is the life of Daniel. It is a good example for us.

As you look at Daniel’s life, you understand brother Zach’s life and shield yourself from the slander against wonderful things.

Prove that it is true by action.

    INTRODUCTION

Grounds on Which Principalities And Powers Are Overthrown

Do you know about the grounds on which principalities and powers will be overthrown?

When I have to face principalities and powers and command them to bow, if there is anything in my life on which they can stand to resist, they will resist.

To try to make my life a bit more comfortable contrary to what I said, is to do me total harm.

At the human level, it looks like love for me.

Before man, it is allright, but before principalities and powers, it is quite another story.

I have to live my life before God.

I have to live my life before men.

I have to live my life before evil spirits.

I must have the testimony of evil spirits, saying, We cannot resist this man, because nowhere is he holding back part of the price.

I have a lucid mind. I know what I am doing.

There is a testimony that must be borne before principalities and
