Split Happens - S. C. Shelby
Disclaimer
This book is lots of things.
It's a companion and a guide because I want you to know that you are not alone in this.
It's a pessimistic, realistic, and satirical look at a shitty situation because I want you to know that life is sometimes ridiculous.
It's a reminder that you are strong, courageous, and capable, and bad situations need not label you otherwise.
Remember that, as in your parents' divorce, and especially in this little book, not everything applies to you (or even me). Some examples might apply to you, and some not to you (or even me).
If I miss a situation or idea, it doesn't mean you're the only one it happened to. Go out and talk to people. Friends, cooler family members, teachers, pastors, neighbours, grocery store clerks... You may be surprised to find out who genuinely cares, even if you don't know each other well (or at all).
Some people won't discuss their traumas. I encourage these conversations because it is important and healing, and no one should be afraid to talk about themselves, especially not the negative bits.
Whatever happens, you've got this.
Do it afraid.
Chapter 1: Dreams Don't Come True
