    Another Seizure

Ginger! Please Respond, Ginger! I heard as I felt a constant soft tap on my cheek.

I woke up to my mom, John, and some strange men in uniform staring over me.

Oh no! I had another seizure!

Do you know your name? the strange man asked.

I quietly stated Ginger, but my mom thinks its Red.

She’s fine! my mom said laughing and crying at the same time. The strange men were paramedics and one of them poked my finger to measure my blood sugar, while the other put a blood pressure cuff and pumped it so hard I thought I would lose my arm.

Everything is stable. You should make a doctor’s appointment to get her medicine levels checked and readjusted. It is common that children have growth spurts and have seizures when they start outgrowing their medicine. Don’t do too much, get some rest, and let us know if you need anything. We are just a phone call away. The guy with the Eric name tag said.

They gathered up their equipment and left. Ugh. I hate getting blood tests. They take tubes of blood from my arm and measure all my levels of medicine and blood stuff. I hate medicine readjustments, too. When they give me more medicine, it always makes me feel a bit tired and dizzy for about a week. Just what I need—more medicine. Now I will never get normal teeth or any taller!

I remember my name, but I am having a hard time piecing together the memory of what I was doing when this seizure happened. I’m at home and I’m on the couch. OH! I see the laundry basket on the other side of the living room. I remember now! I was bringing laundry down and I remember feeling weird. I felt like I was having trouble keeping my eyes open and I needed to lie down for a nap. I also felt dizzy. I put the basket down and sat on the couch and closed my eyes to flashing lights. I guess my seizure was mild. It felt more like sleeping to me.

Ginger, I just called the doctor. You will be missing school tomorrow. We are going to get your medicine adjusted as soon as possible. I am so glad you were not at school when this happened. How are you feeling? Do you need anything?

Yay, I will miss school tomorrow! I like doctor appointments because my mom always takes me to lunch and to the store to choose a fun treat afterwards. It is a special time I get to spend with just my mom. I’m laughing inside my mind thinking of Emily suffering her day away at school as I hang with mom all day.
