Preface
Several years ago, I had to make a choice. Should I stay at the brokerage firm I was with, or should I walk away and embark on my own journey? Should I remain in the safety of someone else’s firm, or should I start my own? Consumed with doubts about my ability to chart my own path and maintain financial survival, I ultimately decided that the potential reward would be worth the risk. I wrote this book to give you the support, confidence, and tools I desperately needed when I decided to start my own brokerage. What I offer in this book is a simple, distilled, no-nonsense guide to building your business, as well as tidbits from my own journey to help inform and inspire yours. You are going to write your story. You will mold your world into exactly what you want. And with this book, you now have the tools for the journey. Absolutely nothing is holding you back. You are officially creating your destiny, reclaiming your world, and designing your future life! Cheers to you and your journey. The world is yours, and now it unfolds one page and one decision at a time.

The Nuts and Bolts of Starting Your Own Real Estate Brokerage
1. ARE YOU A GOOD FIT FOR OWNING YOUR OWN BROKERAGE?
If you dream about a brokerage that is fully independent, with 100 percent commission every single time, then you have come to the right place. Any obstacles you may have imagined will feel manageable by the end of this book. Nothing will be holding you back. No excuses. This is your moment.
Operating as an independent broker isn’t for every agent. It is essential to dig into past behaviors and natural inclinations before taking the leap. Doing so will help ensure you’ve set yourself up for success.
Some of you will read this book and apply all the guidance in a day’s time. For others, it may be a better fit to shift toward independence in baby steps. You set the pace.
Here are a few questions to get you started:
Do you cringe every time you give your hard-earned money to your broker?
Do you want to grow your own brand and business—not someone else’s?
Do you like getting paid right away instead of at the end of the red tape?
Do you want to create your own work culture and destiny?
Do you simply want to do things your way? Your own rules and not someone else’s?
Are you an independent self-starter by nature?
Do you very rarely go into your broker’s office?
Do you work from your home office or a coffee shop?
Do you very rarely feel the need to ask your broker questions? Do you naturally try to find the answers and solutions on you own? If so, how?
Keep in mind that this is simply an exercise to see how close you are to taking the leap. It is not an exercise to definitively say whether you are capable. That’s easy; we know you are capable. We just want to make sure that starting a brokerage is the right next step for you.
Now, go deeper:
How many people are in your database? You don’t need to have an enormous number of people. But do the people you have generate
