About this ebook

Have you ever wondered what it is that prevents you from achieving your dreams? What makes you doubt yourself, your capabilities and your possibilities? What makes you feel fear, frustration or discouragement in the face of the challenges and opportunities that life offers you?

The answer to these questions lies in your level of self-confidence, i.e. the belief you have in your own value, competence and control. Self-confidence is a key factor in your personal and professional success, as it influences your well-being, performance and happiness.

However, self-confidence is not something you either have or don't have, but can be developed, improved and strengthened over time. To do this, you need to learn to trust yourself, overcome obstacles and take advantage of the opportunities that life offers you.

In this book, I will teach you how to do it, through a series of concepts, strategies and exercises that will help you believe in yourself and achieve your goals, your projects and your dreams. I will show you the benefits, the enemies, the habits, the challenges, the allies and the results of self-confidence, and how you can apply them to your daily life.

This book is based on the philosophy of carpe diem, a Latin expression meaning "seize the day" or "reap the day". Carpe diem is more than just a slogan, it is a way of living the present fully, accepting the uncertainty of the future and acting according to your values and principles.

Carpe diem invites you to be aware of what you do, to choose what makes you happy and not to let opportunities pass you by. Carpe diem also reminds you that life is short and that you should make the most of it, without forgetting that you are mortal and that you must leave a positive legacy.

This book is for all people who want to improve their self-confidence and achieve their dreams, regardless of their age, gender, profession or situation. This book is for you, who want to grow, advance and transform your life.

This book is for you, who believe in yourself and know that everything is possible.

If You Believe in Yourself, Everything Is Possible. - Santos Omar Medrano Chura

    1. The benefits of self-confidence: how to improve your self-esteem, self-efficacy and self-control

Self-confidence is the belief you have in your own value, competence and control. Self-confidence is a key factor for your personal and professional success, as it influences your well-being, performance and happiness. To improve your self-confidence, you can work on these three aspects:

1.1. Self-esteem: how to value yourself and respect yourself as an individual

Self-esteem is the positive or negative evaluation, perception or judgment that a person makes of him/herself based on the evaluation of his/her thoughts, feelings and experiences1. It is a psychology term studied by various experts in the field. However, it is used in everyday speech to refer to the value that a person gives himself/herself.

Self-esteem is related to one's self-image and self-acceptance, which is the recognition of one's own qualities and defects. The way in which a person values him/herself is often influenced by external agents or the context in which he/she finds him/herself, which is why it can vary over time. In this sense, self-esteem can increase or decrease due to emotional, family, social or work situations, including our positive or negative self-criticism.

Self-esteem is important for personal development and psychological well-being, as it affects the way we relate to ourselves and others, the way we face problems and challenges, and the confidence and security we have in our abilities and decisions. Healthy self-esteem implies having a realistic, balanced and positive view of oneself, without falling into overvaluation or undervaluation.

To value and respect yourself as a person, you should follow these tips:

Reinforce your strengths and develop your skills. Recognize and enhance your virtues, your talents and your achievements, and do not focus only on your shortcomings, your mistakes or your failures. Learn from your experiences, and seek to improve your skills and acquire new knowledge. In this way, you will be able to feel proud of yourself and increase your self-efficacy.

Be realistic and objective with your expectations and goals. Do not demand or impose unattainable, unrealistic or overly ambitious goals that only generate frustration, anxiety or guilt. Don't settle for goals that are too easy, that don't challenge or motivate you. Find a balance between what you want and what you can do, and be flexible and adaptable in the face of changes or difficulties. In this way, you can feel satisfied with your results and increase your self-esteem.

Do not compare yourself with others, but value your own progress and results. Do not be influenced by the standards, models or opinions of others, which may be distorted, subjective or self-serving. Also do not judge or criticize yourself negatively, or feel inferior or superior to others. Be aware of your uniqueness, your identity and your value as a person, and recognize your merits and your efforts. In this way, you will be able to feel self-confident and increase your self-concept.

Be kind and compassionate with yourself, and forgive yourself for your mistakes. Do not punish or reproach yourself for your failures, your weaknesses or your limitations, which are part of your human condition. Do not blame or take responsibility for things that do not depend on you, or that you cannot change. Be understanding, tolerant and benevolent with yourself, and accept your emotions and feelings, without denying or repressing them. In this way, you will be able to feel at ease with yourself, and increase your self-acceptance.

Take care of your physical appearance, your health and your well-being. Do not neglect or neglect your appearance, your hygiene or your diet, which are aspects that influence your self-image and self-esteem. Do not subject yourself to extreme diets, cosmetic surgeries or other methods that may put your health or integrity at risk. Be consistent and respectful with your body, and healthy habits, such as exercising, sleeping well or relaxing. This way, you will be able to feel good about yourself, and increase your self-care.

Surround yourself with people who appreciate, support and respect you. Do not isolate yourself or distance yourself from the people who love you, value you and accept you as you are, who are your family, your friends or your partner. Do not let yourself be manipulated, humiliated or mistreated by people who criticize, despise or reject you, who are your enemies, your rivals or your aggressors. Seek contact and communication with people who contribute, enrich you and help you grow. In this way, you will be able to feel accompanied and loved, and increase your self-respect.

1.2. Self-efficacy: how to believe in your ability to achieve what you set out to achieve

Self-efficacy is the belief you have about your ability to perform an action, achieve a goal or cope with a situation. Self-efficacy is a concept introduced by psychologist Albert Bandura, who developed the social learning theory, which explains how people learn by observation, imitation and modeling. According to Bandura, self-efficacy is a key factor in people's motivation, performance and well-being, as it influences how they perceive themselves, how they approach their goals and how they cope with challenges and difficulties.

Self-efficacy can be high or low, depending on the confidence you have in your abilities to achieve what you set out to do. A person with high self-efficacy feels capable, competent and self-confident, and has a positive and optimistic attitude towards the situations they face. A person with low self-efficacy feels incapable, incompetent and unsure of himself/herself, and has
