Harry Dunn, a Capitol Police Officer, experienced an awakening after the election of the first Black president, which grew stronger as he witnessed police brutality against the Black community. His belief in law enforcement's bravery was shaken by Ferguson and political extremism. On January 6th, he fought alongside fellow officers, exposing the threat to democracy. Standing My Ground is a powerful, patriotic tale that provides a definitive firsthand account of the day, and Dunn's story highlights the political and racial divide in the country, which must be overcome to demand accountability and preserve democracy.

    PROLOGUE

The January 6, 2021, tragedy has left a deep impact on our democracy, with election workers being threatened online and threatened by domestic terrorists. The trauma experienced by those who witnessed the event is still felt today, with hundreds of police officers still working through the physical and emotional scars of the event. The tragedy has left many feeling a sense of shock and fear, as they have witnessed similar demonstrations at the Capitol before.

The nation has seen many similar demonstrations, such as the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, Veterans for Peace, the Million Man March, the Women's March on Washington, pro-choice rallies, anti-abortion demonstrations, gun control, and gun rights. Americans with different agendas have been coming to the Capitol for over 150 years to tell their elected leaders what's on their minds. It is the job of officers to protect them, no matter what their agenda.

As Americans, we have the right to freedom of speech and assembly, and we should not be afraid to express our beliefs, desires, or dissatisfaction. The trauma experienced by those who witnessed the tragedy is a reminder that we all have the right to protect our democracy and the rights of our fellow citizens.

The speaker, a former president of the United States, spoke about the brutality of the January 6th riots in America. He compared the violence to the brutality of the bloodied bodies of American soldiers and civilians who were killed or maimed by so-called patriots. These individuals were not international terrorists but members of their own communities, including store owners, clerks, waiters, doctors, lawyers, IT specialists, real estate agents, CEOs, veterans, service members, police officers, accountants, retirees, and construction workers.

The speaker emphasized that the attacks on January 6th were not an attack on one person, community, town, or city, but on all communities, all of them at the same time. They cried as they carried a rioter and ran to Senator Mitch McConnell's side office door for help.

The speaker argued that the US is special because it has a democracy where every man and woman has a right to have a say in how it operates. This belief in democracy has been a source of strength for African Americans, who have been trying to get America to live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.

The struggle for democracy has threaded through various events, such as the trial of Crispus Attucks, the Dred Scott and Plessy v. Ferguson decisions, the Civil War, the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments, Brown v. the
