About this ebook

Cramps can result from particular illnesses, from nutritional deficiencies and (very often) as a side effect of medications. This little pocketbook describes the foods and herbs that can help counteract muscle spasms, which though not life threatening can be a major issue for both sleep and physical activity.

    About Nature Cures

This pocketbook is a natural-remedy-specific guide to a particular health issue that troubles many people. The information is drawn from my website www.naturecures.co.uk and my in-depth book Nature Cures: The A to Z of Ailments, Natural Foods, Nutrients and Hazards, available from www.hammersmithbooks.co.uk. For more detail about the nutrients and foods listed in this pocketbook, please do refer to these sources. In both this book and my comprehensive works the sources of the information I have used are far too numerous to list; if there is any fact or recommendation that is of concern, please do contact me via www.naturecures.co.uk.

This pocketbook represents a compilation of many years of research but is no substitute for visiting a qualified health practitioner so please do consult such, especially your doctor with regard to any prescription medications, before making significant changes to your diet, lifestyle or health regime.

    CRAMPS

Muscle cramps can involve a single muscle or a whole group and can happen in various places in the body depending on the cause. These involuntary muscle spasms can also be caused by incorrect signals from the brain, known as dystonia. These involuntary movements increase under stress and emotional tension but decrease at rest and relaxation. In most cases cramps go away after a few minutes and, although they can be uncomfortable and painful, are generally not harmful. It is a case of eliminating the causes to find what is responsible for repetitive cramps. Cramps in the stomach or the extremities, especially the foot, are most common.

CAUSES OF CRAMP SPECIFICALLY IN THE FEET OR LEGS

Failure to stretch foot muscles daily

    Flat feet

Foot problems such as sore feet

    Improper footwear.
