    Wanderlust - Cendrine Marrouat

    Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you. - Walt Whitman

    ––––––––

    The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. - Lao Tzu

    ––––––––

    Not all those who wander are lost. - J. R. R. Tolkien

    TIME

    History has been defied.

    bricks are beautified—

    time always has an audience.

    WHERE STARS SHALL BE BORN

    The weary sun

    joins his watery bride—

    let there be life!

    HAIKU - PART 1

    Sullen echoes

    challenge majestic mountains

    from the red earth.

    ––––––––

    A bell rings somewhere;

    roosters crow in unison:

    heaven has spoken.

    ––––––––

    In this deep blue sky,

    chatty flocks of geese appear

    followed by a kite.

    ––––––––

    Shapes carved in lava;

    sacredness blossoms at last

    under fingertips.

    ––––––––

    Here, words in the sand;

    there, waves gliding towards me...

    Memories erased.

    ––––––––

    The water lily

    has white and pink petals—

    fragrant ripples next.

    The fog has rolled in—

    details of branches melt

    for a split second.

    ––––––––

    This strip of land

    is home to waterfowl

    in the summer.

    ––––––––

    The eagle’s cry...

    A solemn tree welcomes

    inquiring minds.

    ––––––––

    Crunchy sounds in snow;

    dogs keep watch at the window;

    night is drawing near.

    ––––––––

    Willow trees offer

    respite from the heat: the cat

    sees me and stretches.

    ––––––––

    Fiery clouds

    entangled in sunrays—

    the secret of night?

    ––––––––

    Tall grass, thick canopy,

    cobwebs between slabs of stone—

    the door frame still stands.

    ––––––––

    A railroad crossing

    in the middle of nowhere—

    another Sunday.

    ––––––––

    Morning drizzle:

    umbrellas move along

    like butterflies.

    ––––––––

    Torn sheets of paper

    scattered on the path; raindrops

    wrote their own poems.

    ––––––––

    September is near:

    a smile from the crumbling barn

    across a dusty road.

    ––––––––

    Another snow day;

    footprints slowly vanish

    from the sidewalk.

    ––––––––

    Silence lives skyward

    ensconced among clouds and stars;

    every bird courts it.

    THINK UPON THOSE THINGS

    Hush, baby, hush.

    The lull of the world will come.

    Nascent dreams and fantasies

    Open the door to freedom.

    ––––––––

    Hush, baby, hush.

    Let the tears flow evenly

    In the apex of your mind,

    And feel the light through your spine.

    ––––––––

    Think upon those things

    That make us human.

    Think upon those words

    That turn us against one another.

    Think about those instants

    When change soars into the sky,

    When you feel limitless,

    Impervious to sorrow.

    ––––––––

    So, next time you curse the world,

    Remember you
