About the Author
To my sons—Michael, Brandon, and Marcus—you are the wind beneath my wings. You are the reason I live and breathe. You have been the catalyst to everything I accomplished in my life. Thank you for being my strength and encouragement and reminding me of the things I would tell you when you were younger. I often wondered if you were really paying attention to the words I would speak to and over you. It makes my heart smile when you turn around and give me that same advice or better. You all have grown into amazing young men in your own right. Continue to strive to be the men God has called you to be.

Journal to Healing: From Brokenness to Breakthrough
Book Title Defined
Journaling
According to www.yourdictionary.com, "The definition of journal is a diary you keep of daily events or of your thoughts or a publication dealing with a specific industry or field.
"An example of a journal is a diary in which you write about what happens to you and what you are thinking."
I have always found journaling to be therapeutic even as a child. We just called it writing in our diary at that time. But, if you think about how freeing it made you feel to write out all your secrets or your concerns or to simply write about your day, it was like a form of therapy.
I have found, as I would look back at my journal entries, I would have the answer to many of the questions or concerns I was writing about. As I became an adult and began learning more about God and the Holy Spirit, I realized God was always speaking. He has given us the Holy Spirit as our paraclete (Greek, meaning helper
or advocate
). The Holy Spirit is within us as believers to be our lead, our guide, our helper and advocate. When we take time to shut out all the noise around us and listen to that still small voice, we will begin to gain clarity and direction. Too often, we are busy asking or telling God what we want instead of asking, Lord, what do You want me to do?
or Lord, what direction should I go?
It's in the simple things. If we learn how to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and pay attention to the promptings He is giving us, we would be so much better for it. We could avoid some hardships, headaches, and heartaches if we would just be still and listen.
An easy way to do that is to sit quietly with your journal and then begin to write the first thing that comes to mind. For example, the first word that may come to mind is rest. Now ask God or the Holy Spirit, What does this mean?
He may be telling you to rest your mind, get more physical rest, or rest in Him. The Holy Spirit will give you insight into what is to come and how to prepare, if you spend time in His presence. Spend time in prayer, meditation, and worship daily. God desires for us to have an intimate
