To my husband Francis Ennels, who supports and encourages me and all of my endeavors. Thank you, Francis, for indulging my every whim. To my sons Devin and Marlin and my beautiful grandchildren, I love you. To my friends and family, thanks for your consistent love and support. Foreword

Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust, Proverbs 4:23–27 MSG

Christian, a term birthed in Antioch in Acts 11, means Christ-like. It connotes that one has and exemplifies the characteristics of Christ. While many ascribe to be like Christ, most have a long way to go to reach that goal. One of the biggest hindrance to that goal is our emotions. Very few have the testimony of not being emotional. Emotions are what people feel. Emotions are comprised by a mixture of hormones and the unconscious mind. It takes great discipline, focus, intention, and strength to get a handle on one’s emotions.

Getting a grip on emotions would be easier if life didn’t keep happening. It is very difficult to get a handle on something that is in constant motion. Life keeps moving. Challenges keep coming. Disappointments are plentiful. Sickness is all around us. Finances are fickle, and relationships are unstable. Each day brings something different. The rapidity of life can sometimes make you feel like you are emotionally all over the place.

Mixed Emotions from a Biblical Stance is a practical tool borne out of everyday situations by someone just like you to help you get a handle on your emotions. I have the privilege to pastor and watch Tiera Ennels matriculate through her own process of maturity. Paul makes the statement that his experiences were to help others coming behind him. God allows and entrusts us to deal with, experience, and be exposed to various things qualifying us to be legitimate voices of reason to assist others dealing with the same things.

All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us, 2 Corinthians 1:3–5 MSG

Through her own successes, failures, losses, pains, disappointments, trials, and triumphs comes this ninety-day devotional. With this book, you will learn and be inspired, encouraged, and even challenged to be a better you. Mixed Emotions from a Biblical Stance will let you see you are not crazy or alone and will leave you hopeful you can be victorious.

The Bible prompts us to guard our hearts because out of our hearts flow the issues of life. Guard your emotions and get a handle on your feelings so you won’t be all over the place. This book is a prayer answered to show you how to get it done. Its principles are biblically based, and its content is relevant and relatable. Proverbs suggest a person without discipline or self-control is like a city without walls. With the help of Tiera, that won’t be your testimony. It is my prayer that as you read this devotional, you will be able to find yourself, get a handle on your emotions, and grow into who God has destined you to be. Enjoy and be blessed.

    2 Corinthians 1:3–4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

    Bend but Don’t Break

God knows all about our struggles. It is important that we trust and look to God to help us with our needs. I have learned that when you look to God for strength, hope, and encouragement, you should be able to make it through. God never said that we would never feel sad or hurt, but He said that He would be our comforter. In 2015, I had to deal with the death of my dad. Prior to his death, I had to deal with the many calls from the doctors continually telling me that my dad’s life would soon end. This went on for a year, and if it weren’t for the grace of God, I would have broken instead of bending. God surrounded me with a great support system that allowed me to be me. I was also able to tell my dad what he really meant to me. So no matter what you are going through, give it to Jesus because He will give you the comfort and the strength to stand tall. Take time to cry and release your pain. Be honest with yourself and seek the help that you need. Talk it out as much as you need but do not throw in the towel. Do not give up. Be resilient, be flexible, and be a force to be reckon with because the devil cannot have your joy. You are a conqueror, and God is an awesome comforter. When the weight of the world is on your shoulders, you can bend; when you can’t seem to see your way through, you can bend; when life deals you a bad hand, you can bend, just as long as you do not break.

Lord, we thank You for the strength to endure all things when events in our lives seems to be unbearable. Amen.

    James 5:13

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

    I Smile

Do not allow the pressures of life to wear you down. Confuse the enemy and choose to smile. By making yourself smile, no matter how you feel, your body will start to release all those wonderful chemicals that makes you feel happy. A smile is one of the most simple, inexpensive, and wonderful things in the world. When you feel frustrated, angry, or bored, a smile
