About this ebook

The book The Holy Spirit and Me explains the person of the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity who is coequal with God the Father and God the Son. The book also contains detailed information about the purpose, functions, and benefits of the Holy Spirit and how believers are to treat him. There are also questions and answers from men and women of God that explain the various ways through which the Holy Spirit works in and through believers. Finally, my own personal encounter and experience are vividly described in the book so that readers may get to have an in-depth knowledge of the Holy Spirit so as to help develop a personal relationship with Him in order to enjoy the fullness of God on our Christian journey.

    Acknowledgments

I want to thank God Almighty who gave me the grace upon grace to come up with these words that translate into prints made easy for His people to read. It can only be God for someone with a very little background in writing to turn an author overnight. May His name be praised forevermore. Furthermore, my appreciation goes to members of my family; my husband, Mr. Jide Sanya; my children, Toyin, Seun, Toyosi, Femi, and Oyinkansola; and all my grandchildren for all their love and support while preparing this manuscript.

May the Almighty God watch over you always and give you the grace to be useful vessels in His Kingdom in Jesus’s name. In addition, my unparalleled appreciation goes further to my father in the Lord in the person of Pastor/Dr. Richard Akinjide, the pastor-in-charge of Tower of Praise Church International. Your contributions, sir, toward the making of this book shall not go unrewarded in Jesus’s name, and may the Lord continue to bless your ministry in the mighty name of Jesus.

Finally, I cannot do without mentioning the viable contribution received from men and women of God who contributed in one way or the other immensely to the making of this book through their advice and their honest responses toward the questions and answers which formed one of the major headlines of this book. May the Lord reward your labor of love with grace, honor, and blessings in Jesus’s name. Amen.

    A Letter from Mojisola

    Hello, my friends,

Have you ever wondered what exactly it is that sets you apart from other people, most especially unbelievers, or have you ever wondered how you are able to accomplish so much even when you know beyond reasonable doubt that you couldn’t have been able to do what you did?

Yes, of course we understand that the moment we accept Jesus Christ there is a transformation that happens to us, but have you ever asked yourself what exactly is the cause of this transformation? This is exactly what the piece of writings you are holding in your hand is about to reveal to you.

Friends, I want you all to know and have a perfect understanding of the Holy Spirit who is the third person of the Trinity, who was with the Father from creation, and who occupies the spirits of every believer to will and to do God’s good works. So, therefore my friends, I want you all to sit and relax while you take your time to read these small expository writings in your hand and see what great transformation you will experience as you determine to make use of it. May the blessings of the Holy Spirit rest with everyone in Jesus’s name. Amen.

    Thanks,

    Your darling friend, Mojisola

    Chapter 1

    Who Is the Holy Spirit

Contrary to the opinion of some people that the Holy Spirit is a force or a ghost or a replacement or second-class god, the Holy Spirit is neither any of these but rather a real person. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, therefore He is a real person just as God the Father is our God and Jesus Christ is God the Son. The Holy Spirit is coequal and coeternal with God the Father and God the Son. The Word of God recorded that the Holy Spirit was with God at creation for in Genesis 1:2b it reads, And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This means that the Holy Spirit is a real person though with no physical body and therefore may not be physically visualized just as God cannot be physically seen, but He is real as He was said to move on the face of the waters. Remember only a living thing can have the ability to move and do something. In the light of this, I will like to share some distinct characteristics of the Holy Spirit that identifies Him as a real person and not just a mere force or wind.

Distinct characteristics of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit has feelings. Yes, the Holy Spirit is a real person with His own personality and just as you have feelings of emotions, such as anger, joy, and happiness, so also is the Holy Spirit. And grief not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption (Ephesian 4:30). Now you know that the Holy Spirit might be grieved if we do not do the right thing meaning that He has feelings, and this is why we have been warned to be careful in dealing with Him. Remember the usual saying which says, To be forearmed is to be forewarned.

We need to recognize that some of our behaviors or actions may be so obnoxious to the person of the Holy Spirit and thus put us at risk of grieving Him (for example, living a lifestyle that is contrary to God’s ways, such as excessive drinking, evil association, engaging
