Introduction

Y ou may have heard that God does not look at our abilities; He looks at our availability. While that is true, it is only half of the story. The other half is that God puts His ability in you to do His work. It is a powerful, supernatural ability we receive called the anointing. However, before I go into depth about the anointing of the Holy Ghost, it is important to discuss the person of the Holy Spirit. It is vital to understand who He is, what He does, and His role in our lives. Every Christian needs to know Him and not just about Him because ignorance brings limitation to our lives.

This study of the Holy Spirit is designed not only to enhance your knowledge of who He is universally but for you to experience His transforming power and presence in your everyday personal life. So who is this Holy Spirit? What can He do for you?

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is the ability God gives mortal man to do supernatural things for Him. It is a fundamental aspect of the Christian walk God expects all His children to experience. He wants every believer in Christ to be anointed to do His work. The truth is, if you are doing God’s work without the anointing, you are headed for trouble.

Do you want to experience more spiritual power in your life? Do you want to break the yokes and bondage in your life and those around you? Are you tired and frustrated with the old routine of going to church with the narration of the power of God without the demonstration of the power? If the answer to these questions is yes, you have the right book in your hands. As you continue to read these pages, God will do something amazing in you.

In this book you will discover:

• What the anointing is

• How the anointing within functions and grows

• The difference between the anointing within and the anointing upon.

• The authority that the anointing within has.

• The two laws operating the anointing within

• How to release the anointing within.

• The levels and dimensions of the anointing

• And many more impactful, life-changing teachings

Chapter 1

Who Is the Holy Spirit?

T he Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He proceeded from God. Note the personal pronoun He, which indicates we are talking primarily about a person. That is to say, the Holy Spirit is a person, not a thing or an active force. Unfortunately, many have the misguided impression that the Holy Spirit is a dove because at Jesus’ baptism, The Spirit of God descended like a dove. Here, you must pay attention to the word like, which makes a comparison of the Holy Spirit’s descension to that of a dove. It does not compare the Holy Spirit to a dove. Thus, it is not referring to what the Holy Spirit looked like but the manner of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him (Matthew 3:16).

When you are born again, you are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. The baptism prepares you as the temple of the Holy Spirit for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. He begins the work in and through you. You receive the Spirit of God without measure. However, if you fail to believe God and trust in all of His Word, you limit the Spirit in your life and measure the Spirit to yourself.

For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him (John 3:34).

Jesus received the Holy Spirit without measure. He was sent by God the Father.

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you (John 20:21).

We too have received the Spirit without measure and have been sent by Jesus.

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified (John 7:37–39).

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you (John 14:16–20).

In Greek the two words used for the word another are allos and heteros. Allos means one of the same kind. Heteros means one of a different kind.

The Word Comforter in Greek is Paracletus – one to walk alongside. Jesus said He will send us allos Paracletus. He said He will not leave us comfortless. In other words, He will not leave us as orphans. There are seven words used to describe this word in the English language to give us clarity on the Holy Spirit – Paracletus.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—

The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.

I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you (John 14:16–18, Amplified Version).

Comforter

The Holy Spirit is your Comforter. He is your Father. In your times of sorrow and distress, He will comfort you. When you lose your loved ones to death, divorce or otherwise, He will give you ease and freedom from the pain. If you are distressed because you think you have lost a lot in your life whether financially, emotionally, physically or spiritually, He will restore and comfort you.

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you (Joel 2:25).

Not only will He restore your lost material possessions, He will restore your lost time. What do I mean by that? I am talking about acceleration – a rapid realization of what you should have accomplished in the prior years. The things you wanted to acquire and achieve will become possible in a few weeks or months. He will restore your relationships, finances, health, and so forth.

With the Holy Spirit in your life, there is never a too late occurrence. For example, when Lazarus died, his sisters, Mary and Martha thought it was too late for Jesus to do anything to restore his life. The fact is that Lazarus was dead and buried for about three days. However, Jesus is never late and so, He did what seemed impossible. He raised Lazarus from the dead (see John Chapter 11).

Counselor

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left (Isaiah 30:21).

The Holy Spirit will give you good counsel. He tells you what to do and how to go about it. When you miss your way, He will redirect you. Moreover, you can be certain He will always give you the right advice.

Advocate

He is our Advocate. He represents us. He is our spokesperson. He is our crusader and adviser. The Holy Spirit will speak on your behalf. He knows all things and is also called the Spirit of Wisdom; hence, the perfect representative in your times of need.

Intercessor

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:26–28).

The Holy Spirit will intercede for you with groanings that cannot be uttered. There are no disappointments or disadvantages for a child of God. All things will always work for your good because the Holy Spirit intercedes for you even in your most dire circumstances. He has made us masters over life and overcomers over all of life’s challenges. Even when you don’t know what to pray or how to pray, He will negotiate on your behalf.

Helper

The Holy Spirit will make life easy for you. He is your helper and support. You can depend on Him in all of life’s situations. In your education, He will help you. In your relationships, He will help you. You will never be defeated or stranded in life because of the certain help the Holy Spirit gives.

Strength

As you speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit energizes you. If you are weak physically or spiritually, He will strengthen you. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit will strengthen, reinvigorate, energize, and quicken your mortal body (Romans 8:11).

Standby

When everything has failed, you have a standby. When education has failed you — you have a standby. When your job has failed you — you have a standby. Even when your local church or her leaders have failed you — the Holy Ghost is your standby. He is like a stand by generator. You are never left without the source of power.

Everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior has the anointing within because the Anointed One lives on the inside of him. However, that is different from carrying an anointing upon your life.

We are not anointed to do everything in the kingdom of God. Each of us has an anointing from God to do a particular work. Therefore, you cannot do what someone else does because you feel like it. If you try to step into somebody else’s assignment when you do not have the anointing for it, you will struggle. You will find yourself trying to act like the person just because you are excited about what they do, and you feel like doing it. Be warned, if you take that approach in your Christian walk you are setting yourself up for disaster. Trouble is ahead. You need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
