Poetry of a Lonely Sailor - Aaron Michael Paskell
Alaskan Grown
I was feeling down with concussion protocol,
so I decided it was time for a recall
If I’m going to travel for the next few years I
might as well be in it for the long haul
I came back to a place that gave me my earliest memories
What I saw in myself was the downfall of my energy
But I got back up down in a cabin out in the woods
Ride on an atv and I was wearing a helmet in my hood
Bear in mind my friend burned a flag of pride
It’s easy to be seen in this day and age, it’s harder to hide
That’s why I told him to love others and ignore the noise
Hold your head up high and plug into the sound of poise
Understand that the media is in it for clout
They’ll label you coward just because
of what your life is about
Use the word of God not no bear mace
Even the wild ones calm down in a chase
We’re Alaska grown we know nothing
but bears and the snow we plow
When it comes to people we hibernate
and tell them how to fish
The only thing in my fridge was that dish
And I am not going to lie it was delish
This iced out boy got me feeling rich

Come help me up he pushed me down
Treat me like dirt till’ I live on the ground
Born with the right kind of family
The devil never wanted to be alone
He twists my cells to rebel
He microwaves my soul
Longs to preheat my life in hell
I feel the need to turn off my radio
Cause the station isn’t meaningful
Awaken me from this wasted sleep
It doesn’t do me any good
Darkness calls in the deep
With messages about my mood

I look for fish in the
