CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION
Our modern lives are both cluttered and hectic. There are so many things competing for our attention at the same time. Someone is always expecting us to complete an assignment and follow their instructions, whether we are in school or the workplace. We are constantly bombarded with tasks and responsibilities, to the point where the only rest we get maybe when we sleep at the end of the day. Our personal lives, like our professional lives, can be just as hectic. Maintaining relationships frequently consumes our limited free time, and while we love our friends and family, keeping up with all of their plans and being available for all of their needs can be as exhausting as work. Our calendars fill up quickly, and we're frequently left racing around trying to balance everything on our plates while desperately hoping we don't drop anything.
As a mother of two, I am acutely aware of how hectic life can be. I used to feel extremely overwhelmed at the start of each day, just thinking about everything I had to do by the end of it. I had all of my personal and professional responsibilities, as well as concerns about my children. I'd rush around in the mornings getting them ready and packing their lunches, all while running through a mental checklist of everything I needed to get done before they left. This left me with little time to relax, causing me to be anxious most of the time. I was a compulsive overthinker, and my worries about my hectic, cluttered life would play over and over in my head as I tried to sleep. That didn't even take into account how physically cluttered the house was. It wasn't uncommon to walk into a room and trip over some stray blocks, and both my husband and I had made impulse purchases that ended up collecting dust on a shelf. With so much clutter in my life, I knew I was causing myself a lot of stress, and I needed to figure out how to get things under control.
When our lives and surroundings become cluttered, so do our minds. Our surroundings affect our mental health. Certain colors, for example, can influence us based on their associations.
Because red is often associated with passion and movement, it makes us feel more active. A subtle change in the colors of a room or building can influence how we feel in that space.
The same theory applies to the amount of clutter in our environments. A clean and tidy room makes us feel more relaxed and allows us to concentrate on the task at hand because there is nothing to distract us. A busy environment, on the other hand, makes it difficult to focus because it provides too many different things for our brains to latch onto.
Assume you're at work and there's a TV on in the room. Concentration becomes nearly impossible because, even if you try to tune it out, the noise and visuals from the TV add to the amount of mental clutter you're experiencing. Because of the high level of clutter in the digital world, even your phone can become a significant distraction. A hectic schedule and relationships that require a lot of maintenance can have the same effect on you. Too much clutter for too long causes our brains to race, even when we're trying to focus or sleep. If we stay in this state for too long, we can experience a variety of negative effects such as overthinking, anxiety, tension, and inability to concentrate.
Knowing all of this, you may be wondering, What is the solution to reducing overthinking and anxiety?
If environmental and lifestyle clutter contributes to mental clutter, decluttering our lives will assist us in decluttering our minds.
The concept of reducing clutter borrows heavily from minimalism. A cleaner, more organized environment is more than just aesthetically pleasing in minimalism. It is a more streamlined way of interacting with our surroundings that reduces the number of distractions we face in our daily lives. A minimalist environment encourages greater mindfulness by shifting our attention away from our surroundings and toward ourselves. It becomes easier to navigate our surroundings with greater purpose, allowing us to devote less time to distractions and more time to what truly matters. Living in a clutter-free home or workspace can aid in the prevention of procrastination and overthinking.
Minimalism can be applied to other aspects of your life.
True minimalism entails reducing unnecessary clutter in all aspects of your life, not just your home. Reduce the number of unnecessary responsibilities you have at work so you can focus on the most important ones. Limit your exposure to non-essential information from social media and other aspects of the digital world.
Eliminate toxic relationships that cause you anxiety, just as you would prune old, misshapen branches from a tree to allow the tree to grow. You can even begin to rewire your brain, which will improve your mental health and allow you to let go of negative thoughts that take up space and hold you back. Declutter your life by getting rid of the stressful obligations and distractions that are ultimately unnecessary and cause you anxiety. Living a more minimalist lifestyle and decluttering your mind can help you achieve greater mental clarity, focus, productivity, and peace.
How to Declutter Your Mind teaches you how to live a more stress-free and tranquil life even as our modern world becomes busier and busier. You will learn practical strategies for decluttering various aspects of your life, including your physical
