Introduction
Who am I in the world? That is the great enigma
.
Lewis Carroll
What is personality and how is it structured? Why do some individuals behave differently when faced with similar situations?
This guide was created to disseminate the main theoretical and practical concepts of personality theory in a simple and accessible manner. In fact, this particular aspect of human psychology has been studied since ancient times. It is also a field of study for numerous subjects.
Philosophy, religion, physiology, biology and last but not least, psychology have probed the subject in depth, providing some of the answers and beginning to raise the question from the base of uncertainty that has long characterised research into personality traits .
But in spite of all the studies carried out so far, it is still difficult to give a definition of personality that can be truly exhaustive , while differences remain according to the methodological point of view and the instruments used.
On the following pages, you will find the main findings, knowledge and research of psychology on the subject. From basic to integrated theories, you will discover the notions that researchers have accumulated on personality over time and that help us better understand ourselves and others.
The approach chosen to deal with this body of research is the one that characterises all the volumes in this collection: simplicity.
The aim is to inform the reader in a neutral manner, making accessible the much technical information that often remains relegated to an exclusively academic sphere, but also allowing each reader to create their own personal opinion or idea. As well as finding plenty of food for self-analysis and reflection.

Mahatma Ghandi

Philosophers, psychologists and psychiatrists continue to question personality to this day. Initially, it was thought that it was mostly formed during the first years of life and then remained stable over time. The latest scientific
