About this ebook

Just like most twenty-year-olds, Haley loves her hair. She is blessed with a beautiful, healthy, blonde mane, long enough to touch the back strap of her bra, and she spends a great deal of time and money looking after it. As the saying goes, it is her crowning glory. Also, it's a lad-magnet, and she just can't imagine herself having the same level of success in that department without it.
Call her conceited if you wish.
So, when Haley's friends invite her to join them for a charity fundraising event that involves having their hair cropped, she understandably refuses.
Later, feeling guilty over her decision, Haley voices her thoughts to her best friend, Kelli, who surprises her by offering a very unusual compromise.

(From the book):“Remember that fantasy you once told me about?" said Kelli. "The one about the punishment haircut?”
Haley felt a deep blush spreading across her cheeks. Oh my god, she thought. How the hell had she remembered that?
“You were discussing this sorta bondage scenario, saying how much it turned you on. You'd done something that you deserved to be punished for, and a master or a guard, or someone like that, was going to cut your hair as part of your sentence.”
“Kelli, that was just ...”
But there was no stopping her. “You were in some kind of harsh place, a prison maybe, and they were forcing you to obey them ... disciplining you if you didn’t ... using you, but the big thing was them cutting your hair. Remember?”
For some reason, the memory sent shivers racing along Haley's spine, and she could feel a tingle of arousal manifesting itself in her lower tummy.
“What if it could be real? What if the fantasy could come true?”
“Don’t be so silly,” snapped Haley. "How could ...?"
"What if I had a way of making it real for you?" smiled Kelli.

All the talk around the table was about the upcoming charity haircut. The local Animal Rescue Centre was in need of funding, and Mary—the great organizer—had decided we should all do something to help. Fair enough, I am all for helping out, but the thought of having my hair shaved off, while a raffle or a sponsored walk would probably achieve the same goal, was not overly appealing.

Oh come on, Haley, coaxed Mary, with full backing from the other two. It will be fun. Besides, think of all those poor little animals looking for homes. They need to eat, and food doesn’t come free, you know?

I was thinking of them. I love animals. Most of the time, I love them more than I love certain humans. The thing was, at the end of all this, the animals would still have their hair; I wouldn’t.

Just like most other twenty-year-olds, I loved my hair. I was blessed with thick, healthy, blonde hair, long enough to touch the back strap of my bra, and I spent a lot of time and money looking after it. As the saying goes, it was my crowning glory. Also, it was a lad-magnet, and I somehow couldn’t envision myself having the same level of success in that department without it. Call me conceited if you wish.

I looked over at Kelli, hoping for bestie support, but it wasn’t happening.

She picked up her glass and took a sip of red wine. It will grow back, babe, she grinned. I mean, it’s hardly like cutting off an arm or a leg, is it? I’m with Mary on this one; the dogs and cats need help and they can’t do it for themselves.

But couldn’t we do something else? I asked lamely.

I suppose we could, scowled Mary, but we are doing this. It’s decided. If you don’t want to do it, that’s up to you, but you will be the odd one out.

There was no point in arguing with Mary when she was like this. Yes, she was a pain in the ass at the best of times, but it was our own fault. We let her rule the roost, and nobody ever argued a point with her, so what could we expect? Having said that, she was probably the only one of the bunch with any get-up-and-go, and without her, we’d probably end up sitting on our backsides doing nothing day in and day out.

I’ll think about it, I mumbled.

Well, don’t take forever, she said. There are things I need to get organized.

    Surprise, surprise, I thought.

She handed me a lined card with the logo of the Animal Rescue Centre on top. Here, she said. Even if you don’t do it, at least get some sponsorship for the rest of us.

    * * *

The following day, while Kelli and I were walking home from work, we got to talking about the charity event. Seemingly, Mary was in the process of organizing a series of appointments at the hairdressers for the following Saturday. A photographer from the local newspaper, as well as some guy from the radio station, would pop in to provide a bit of publicity for the fundraiser. Raising awareness of the situation at the Rescue Centre was important, and when everyone saw how serious the girls were about helping, the money would come rolling in.

Look, I said, "I’ll make a donation … a decent one … but I am not going ahead with the
