About this ebook

Consumed with guilt for not living up to her unusually high personal standards, Carol seeks forgiveness through Father Fahey in the confessional of her local church.
Expecting to receive the usual kind of penance, Carol is shocked when the priest hands her a list of ten punishments from which she must select three in order to gain forgiveness for her sins. Her penance will take place within the walls of Witch Hill Abbey, and will be overseen by Brother Samuel -- a man well versed in the ways of cleansing young ladies of their sins -- and will be witnessed by Father Fahey and some of the resident nuns.
Will Carol embrace the ways of goodness, or will the temptation to sin again be even greater?

    ~ A Trip to the Confessional ~

Slipups, wrongdoings, and misdemeanours. Guilty conscience. Confession. Penance. Forgiveness. Clean slate. Begin again.

Carol thrived on getting it just right. She was a perfectionist. Whether this was at home or in her place of work, it didn’t matter. She had no time for her own inadequacies, and if she got something wrong, or allowed her personal performance to slip below her impossibly high standards, she became extremely self-critical and stressed.

Her husband, Paul, knew all the signs by now. He could tell when Carol was in need of help, and he always knew how she would seek it.

You see, Carol was an extremely religious girl, and her belief in the power of the confessional was unshakable. A visit to the local church to confess her sins, accept whatever penance the priest handed down, and she would feel forgiven. The only problem was the lingering guilt, born out of the knowledge that she would mess up again sometime. She would fight this with the old ‘nobody’s perfect’ adage, but it never quite purged the feeling.

On this particular occasion, Carol felt she could have done better during a telephone correspondence with a work client. To be fair, telling that client to ‘go and have rough sexual intercourse with just herself in attendance’—I am paraphrasing, by the way—could never really be classed as truly professional, so her guilt was somewhat justified.

That evening, at dinner, Paul could see she was extremely upset. "Something is troubling you,
