* The Promise *

The fifth day of each month holds a position of special importance in the lives of Jacqueline and Peter. It is the date on which they typically set aside the trials and worries of everyday life, close the door on the rest of the world, and focus solely on each other. They make it a time to recall and celebrate the good things that brought them together, and to ensure that the intense passion they share never loses its shine.

It is a promise they have stuck with through thick and thin, and even now, with three years of happily married life tucked away in their back pockets, it still fills them with a highly-charged sense of excitement.

Jacqueline, although submissive in nature, usually takes the lead regarding the creative side of things. Her love of both literary and performance art has gifted her with a wonderful sense of imagination, and she takes great pleasure in amusing her husband with remarkable tales and fantasies of her own creation. Not surprisingly, these tales often take the form of mood-setters for their bedroom play, and the juiciest of these is always reserved for the night of the famous fifth.

* The Fifth *

It was a constant source of debate amongst Jacqueline’s office colleagues as to why she booked a half-day on the fifth of each month. The good-natured section of the troop simply saw it as a quirky habit, something to be smiled at and applauded. One or two more intense individuals worried that she might be suffering from some kind of condition, and had to attend a scheduled check-up of a medical or psychological nature.

Naturally, there was the corner-dwelling handful who looked for the nefarious reasons, musing that she was involved in some kind of clandestine monthly affair with a secret lover with whom she cheated in such a despicable manner on her poor husband, Peter.

Poor Peter; he didn’t deserve such treatment. He was handsome, charming, amusing: the perfect man. How could Jacqueline do such a thing?

In truth, it was doubtful if any member of the gossip-gang would turn down the opportunity of a roll in the hay with him if the chance arose. So much for moral indignation.

Okay, guys, smiled Jacqueline, as she tidied her desk. See you all tomorrow.

You alright, hon? asked Janice, unable to hide her curiosity.

Hairdresser appointment. A little bit of pampering. Every girl deserves it, Jan, replied Jacqueline, giving nothing away as usual. The fifth was a personal day, and one that she intended to keep that way. Don’t work too hard, folks.

She headed for the coffee shop next door, grabbed some lunch, and perused a few sheets of note-laden paper while downing her coffee.

Nice, she thought. A great deal of imagination had gone into the creation of this month’s presentation, and she had no doubt that Peter would like it … more than like it, in fact. If it didn’t make him horny as hell, she would be greatly surprised. After all, what male with dominant tendencies wouldn’t appreciate tales of submission, especially when orated by his ever-so submissive wife or girlfriend? She smiled, adding a word or two here and there, crossing out the odd line until fully satisfied, and, by then, it was time for the salon.
