The purpose of human communication is a meeting of consciousnesses, and therefore conversation should become the principle of life. The Art of Speaking - Bikash Paul

    Preface

A world divided into two parts

The coronavirus pandemic has drawn a clear line, exposing a social abscess that could still been hidden before. What exactly did you find? There are two types of people: those who OWN THE SKILL OF THE WORD, and those who do not have it.

Before I talk about this in a little more detail, I ask you to think about one topic. For thousands of years, nothing much has changed in terms of achieving results. People who know how to convey their thoughts to the public get everything. Money, fame, respect, loyal fans, and so on. The tactical tools for communicating the word are changing, yes. Previously, Roman senators practiced the skill of persuasion by competing with each other. And now seventeen-year-old active guys and girls are making videos for TikTok, and yes - they also convey their thoughts to the audience (often the millionth). I bet that in another couple of thousand years nothing will fundamentally change - the one who owns the word will own the world.

The one who clearly formulates and clearly conveys the necessary meanings receives everything.

What really distinguishes our times from past eras is that the much-needed skill of public speaking can be discovered, pumped, and developed in a relatively short time.

Now for where I started, the social abscess. What's the problem? When the virus hit with all its force the usual way of life of most people in the world, it became clear that the old models had ceased to work. In a panic, many abruptly switched their activities to online mode. And then it turned out that this online itself was not really waiting for new activists. People have clearly understood that simply announcing, I'm online now, is not enough.

The modern public is spoiled by attention and is used to getting a lot instantly and for free. Does this mean that it is impossible to sell goods and services via the Internet? Of course not. During the crisis, a special category of experts appeared, who began to earn several times more. What makes them different from the rest? I guess you can guess.

Yes, they are able to highlight the reasons to work with them and do it in such a way that the public itself wants to purchase their products. A banal, but the best possible phrase is it is not they who sell, but they buy from them.

Lots of experience and little money

Tell me, do you have friends who have been doing their job for many years or even decades? And at the same time, the price tag for their goods and services does not change for years. You know those? At the same time, you can see how young and arrogant (often not even a fifth of their experience) are actively promoting and winning the attention of the audience.

My opinion: the only thing that needs to be pumped in this situation to catch up and overtake is the skill of public speaking.

What does this include? Any public appearance. You don't even need to imagine the stage and the auditorium. Today, any of your social media accounts is the scene. Nowadays, we do not leave it and must have the skill of communicating with the public.

Here is just a partial list of what you will need in the book that you are holding in your hands. More precisely, not the book itself, but a system solution that its author packed under one cover.

    Magic without magic

Meruert has one peculiarity: after communicating with her, you are in high spirits for some time. How this happens has been a mystery to me for a long time. At first, I thought it was all about her smile. There are such charming people who fascinate you just by laughing at the joke. But here the matter is clearly deeper and more complicated. My next attempt to understand what the magic is is the assumption that she and I are just on the same page. You know how that happens, right? Here you meet a person – and it's as if you have known him for many years. But this, I think, is the wrong version. Why? The fact is that just like me, everyone feels around Meruert.

My search ended when I, like the hero of The Alchemist Paolo Coelho, returned to the place from which I began my journey. The truth is on the surface: we fall in love with the way she speaks. An original cocktail of clear meanings, flashing intonations, and velvet timbre - this is what everyone who had the good fortune to communicate with the author of this book gets.

But that's not the magic. It's in the ability to convey it all. Meruert's students achieve phenomenal results: they increase their reach, promote their products, and earn more than others.

As a literary producer, I had no doubt that people needed this book. After all, we are always looking for a systemic solution to our problems. Not a patch that will fall off tomorrow, but a working formula that gives a lasting effect.

If you had seen the meticulous meticulousness with which Meruert finished each line of this work, you would understand her attitude to the matter - either 5+ or not at all (praise to heaven that they awarded me angelic patience).

At the end of this introduction, let me give you a recommendation. Get one hundred percent included in the book. If you see tips and exercises, immediately implement them. We all communicate with other people every day – there will be no shortage of practice!

    Happy reading!

    Introduction

What is this book about and why does it appear

I don't know anything more beautiful than the ability to use the power of words to attract a crowd of listeners, attract their disposition, direct their will wherever you want, and turn it away from where you want.

    Cicero

We all come from childhood... They say so for good reason. Our path, our destiny, our life – all this is laid, predetermined in our childhood years. And sometimes, after an eternity, you suddenly stop, remembering some episode from the distant and carefree school years, and you realize: that it happened for a reason, and that insignificant, as it seemed then, the event became the impetus for something important, main, determining ...

I'm familiar with that. Recently, already being a sought-after speaker, known in my country, I suddenly remembered an incident that occurred many years ago.

I was then studying at a Russian school. I remember one day walking down the hallway and seeing an ad:

The class that collects the largest amount of waste paper will go on a tour of several cities in Russia.

Even then, as a five-grader, I loved to travel, so I immediately clung to this ad and ran to the classroom:

    — Guys, we have the opportunity to go on a trip together, if we collect the most waste paper!

Immediately there were objections: they say, where will we get so much? But I was supported by a close friend. She, it turns out, knew where to profit from the waste paper: at the Novojambyl

Phosphorus Plant. And so we, a few girls, packed up and went. I kept thinking, how are we going to ask, from whom? We decided that first, we would just go through the offices.

We enter the administrative building, open the first door and... ask for waste paper. Adults have huge eyes:

Who are you? From which school?

    From the forty-second, we reply.

    - So, not from ours, we are in charge of the thirty-fifth.

We began to think about how to persuade them. For an hour they continued to walk and molest everyone. Finally, there was a kind woman who sent her to another office with the words: This is where people decide about waste paper. They took us to the top floor, opened the doors – and there's a bunch of waste paper! How do you take it all away, take it all out? We understand that now we have a new task, even more, difficult than the first one. Again, we turn to that woman:

    - Thanks for the waste paper, but now we need to pick it up, we need transport.

Again, she sends us to some office. Give, we say, transport. The grown-up, respectable uncles sitting there didn't react. They didn't know who they were contacting yet! We kept begging, but there was no result. And then one of us came up with the idea: we will sit here until the last and sing songs! Imagine: three men are discussing something important at the desk, and we have a concert for three voices. They got them to the point where they gave a bus. And they loaded all our waste paper there... about two tons, can you imagine?

That's when I realized how great the power of the word is. For someone who knows how to apply it correctly, nothing is impossible.

And the ticket, you can imagine, was not given to us ... It was the most offensive, but the experience was memorable: three ordinary fifth-graders achieved their goal in a simple word!

    ***

I was an activist at school. She participated in KVN and aspired to the stage. When our literature teacher, Lyudmila Grigorievna, asked us for a poem assigned to the house, I was always the first to raise my hand to go out and tell it by heart. I liked to recite with intonation, with the presentation, to see the satisfaction in the eyes of a strict teacher who loved her subject very much and passed this love on to me.

Lyudmila Grigorievna appreciated me. Sometimes she even said:

"Go out into the hallway, take poems from the guys and give grades.

That's how, in the seventh grade, I gained the authority of a teacher due to the fact that I could speak well. In class, I was respected...

Only later, at the age of thirty, when I was thinking about what I would do next, I remembered that school experience and realized that I like to do it, I know how to do it... As a result, she chose the profession of a business coach by the power of words.

And I succeeded! Now, seeing my success, many people ask: is it possible to learn this or must there be an innate talent? Is this subject to anyone?

Once a girl comes to me, who has chosen for herself the path of a housewife, a reliable rear for her successful husband. So shy... I have never spoken in public, and in general – I am not used to attracting attention to myself. He says: My husband holds a high position, we are often invited to holidays. And when they offer me: like, say a toast! I can't say a word. I'm embarrassed! such a humble man.

She took a course with us – theory, practice, learned to speak in public... from scratch, I emphasize! And a few weeks later he calls: My husband had a birthday, I made a toast and at that moment I saw surprise and admiration in the eyes of my husband ... He even dedicated and sang a song to me that day. And how the relatives were amazed - they did not even realize that I could say so...

So in most cases, it's not about talent. Even a closed person, if professionals work with him, reveals himself, master, the ability to speak well, freely, convincingly, and competently convey his thoughts.

That's why I wrote this book: I want to share with you the all-conquering power of the word. You will receive clear and specific tools with which you can change the worldview of any interlocutor in any situation, even if you are not a speaker by nature.

And situations are very different. For example you are an entrepreneur. Constant negotiations with business partners are part of your job. Your profit directly depends on how well you are able to persuade, to make arguments. You have the perfect product, and unique services – but no one will be interested in them if you can't connect two words. That's the first thing.

Second. You're a leader, you have a team of employees. If you can inspire them, motivate them, and clearly delegate tasks - you will succeed in the market. If you can't, there will be no result. Your subordinates will perform duties purely for show.

The third example is my own. I am a mother of three children: the eldest is twenty-three, and the youngest is seven. The youngest must be persuaded almost every evening to go to bed at ten. Pay attention: not to force, but to make sure that he himself makes this decision, as an adult. It is necessary to motivate him to do his homework every day – not from under the stick, but consciously – and enjoy the fact that he himself completed these tasks. For this, we will also need the right speech. Even on dates, you have to be able to speak beautifully, right?

... We live in an age of information. There are a lot of ideas around us, they are literally in the air. In the midst of this information chaos, how can we convey our ideas to others? Only with the help of competent, confident, clearly built speech.

Of course, we most often work not with our tongues, but with our hands. We perform some actions, get results. But if a person wants not just to work and receive a salary, but to climb the career ladder, to have an impact on colleagues - here an important role is played by his ability to convey his thoughts, explain, beautifully pack his idea and properly present it!

That's why this book was written: so that people, after reading it, in a short time mastered the Talking Pen model and the skills of convincing speech.

    Talking Pen

    10 steps in one model

If you are engaged in your profession for a long time and enthusiastically, there comes a time when you want to somehow systematize, generalize, and derive certain rules and postulates that will help you and your colleagues, students, and followers in the future. I also thought a lot about this and eventually came up with the idea of creating a kind of model for teaching eloquence, and public speaking. My team and I decided to call it Talking Pen. Why?

The first association is one folk wisdom. You can't cut it down with an ax — remember? This, in my opinion, applies not only to written speech as such but above all to the ability to articulate intelligently and persuade reasonably. The pen can be light, graceful... Or maybe it's strong and bright. As I was thinking about the name, I came up with the idea: it must have something to do with me personally. And I asked a few of my friends what kind of subject they could associate with me. Imagine my surprise when they all replied, Pen. Here lies grace, dedication, sophistication, persuasiveness, brightness, beauty, and... word. And so the name was born – organically, of course.

The essence of my model is simple: you need to say little, but meaningfully. Once, in my youth, I read from La Rochefoucauld and remembered for the rest of my life: True eloquence is the ability to say everything that is necessary, and no more than necessary. True, at that time I did not yet assume that this saying would be useful to me in my professional activities.

So, let's remember the main rule.

Speech should be concise, and structured, concise, but convey the essence.

It's not as easy as it sounds. To convey the essence means not just to tell, to list through a comma, but to inspire listeners, to convince them to follow you. The ideal speaker who wields the power of words doesn't just give speeches — he changes people's worldview.

True, as you know, everyone has their own. If we are able to build a speech briefly, concisely, and convincingly, taking into account the peculiarities of the opponent's worldview, then we quickly achieve the goal. This can be vital. Here's what the head of one of the largest companies in Kazakhstan once told me:

    - Mergers, sometimes there are meetings that you wait six months. And when you finally come, they tell you: you only have two minutes, you need to meet this time. But if I can't convince myself in those two minutes, I'll have to wait another six months! Here's how to learn to persuade and concisely convey your thought in such a short time?

From that moment on, I began to develop the topic of convincing and concise
