Imagine you are playing in a basketball tournament, and the final seconds are counting down. Your team needs one point to win. The crowd cheers as you jump up and throw the ball toward the basket. You score! During all the action, you probably didn’t even think about your muscles. But around 640 muscles kicked in to make the play a success. It’s a great moment for your basketball team. But it was your muscle team that made it happen.
If your body were a machine, your muscles would be the engine. A car engine uses the energy in gasoline to turn the wheels. Your muscles take the energy from the food you eat and use it to power all of the
