How to thaw a frozen Turkey safely

There are 2 ways to thaw a frozen Turkey.

First and Safest way is in the refrigerator.  You will leave the turkey wrapped.  Put it in a pan, (with a roasting rack under it if you have one.)  This will take 1 day for every 4 lbs. of turkey.  A 13 lb. turkey will take 3 days to defrost.  I have learned the hard way to always add an extra day so I personally would allow 4 days for a 13 lb. turkey.

The Second and fastest way to defrost a turkey is in water.  But it takes a lot of your time.  Put the turkey in a very large pot or tub.  Make sure your turkey fits inside the pot and can be fully covered with water.  You will fill the pot with COLD water.  Not Warm and Not Hot to speed thawing.  This can put you in danger of food poison.  If your turkey wants to float to the top, put another pot of water on top of your turkey to keep it under water.  Here is the hard part...  You need to change the water out ever 30 min.

How long you ask will this take?  About 30 min. for each pound of turkey.  So, a 13 lb. turkey will take about 6.5 to 7 hrs.  You MUST cook your bird right away after this method.  Do not put it in the refrigerator.

Never, ever leave your turkey to defrost on your counter top or by trying to rush the thawing with warm water, or by using your blow dryer or any other so-called short cuts.  You just might give everyone food poisoning.  Your dinner will be remembered, but for the wrong reason.

No time to thaw a frozen Turkey safely?  Cook it FROZEN.

If forgot to buy your turkey early, you may not have time to defrost it before your guest arrive.  Your turkey is still frozen solid, don’t panic! It’s actually completely safe to cook a frozen, or partially frozen turkey. You will roast it at 325°F and increase the cooking time by about 50 percent if TOTALLY  frozen, or about 25 percent MORE if your turkey is partially frozen.  The reason this works is because the heat of the oven keeps the turkey out of

The danger zone as it is cooking.  Season with salt, pepper, and other spices halfway through cooking. The turkey is done when it registers at least 165°F in all areas.  Make sure
