Perspective - Jermaine Joseph
Transparency
Transparent, I see through them
Fake personalities that charades as reality
Imposters to true friend ship.
Sometimes I think we should be the ones
Called snakes, for we spew our venom on
Our brother’s back, we lie in wait like vicious tigers
Anticipating our clandestine attack.
There is no one to trust
Such has escaped our crystalline personality.
A world of vermin, I am screaming on the inside
But they wouldn’t see
Who would notice, for it is polished with a
Luminous smile
I hide my pain, less they treat it with
Vinegar on a stick
How can reality become so superficial?
Gone are the days when friendship was a
Genuine word
Gone are the days when something could have been told
And kept in confidence, for such to happen now
Would be equated with a perfect coincidence
I am gasping for air in the core of this forested land
For, I have observed wicked men polluting purity With words of discord
You see, what keeps me perplexed, is how my venomous foes
Can masquerade as my allies, but in their hearts lie a tsunami of
Vengefulness. How can people walk around with such hate and not literally
Disintegrate? For such cause I often recoil into my own solitude of hope.
I allow my anger to implode
Lest I be deemed recalcitrant, insubordinate or an entity
That is inimical to progress.
For I am hopeful that one day
Probably when I am bespectacled
People will eventually have a glimpse of life through my spectacles
Then they will be privy to this capsule of hurt and misery that
Plagues my existence, then all will know why it always seemed as though
I was forever in resistance.
By then, God forbid, it would be too late.
Preparedness
Like a cliché to my ears I can hear his exhortations
a coarse voice transcending the frailty of time:
‘If you train hard you will win easy’
But true to form, he was always right.
I think coaches are god’s philosophers
As I grew up, this cliché seemed not to think divorcing
Its self from my every activity is totally relevant
If I am doing a presentation without adequate preparation
Rest assure it is evident in my posture, facial expression and reservations.
What I have also learned is, a plan is like a compass, it keeps you on course
Until such time as your destination presents its self.
With too much experience, my plan has now become my foresight
For she anticipates my mountains, then, she equips me with the most potent
Ammunition to blast them out of my path, which allows me a wave-less sea
To success.
Christmas
So it’s that time of the year again
A time of sharing and caring, the festive season.
A time when we all choose to show just how much we
Appreciate our loved ones and even the people to whom, through
Our actions, we spelt hate.
For this season, I hope we will all acknowledge his supremacy
And not give in to the cliché of lunacy
The lunacy of commercialization: a situation that has forever imprisoned
Our minds into that of chronic shopaholics: just buying this and that to beautify the interior
And exterior of our homes.
While I am not casting this aside as bad
It’s just that I think it is
