About this ebook
Deatrice Nicia De'Lovely
Deatrice Nicia De’Lovely is an African American Poetess/Playwright/Producer from Northern California. Her poetry emphasizes the power and passion of femininity. She began creating poetry for her beloved mother as a very young child and eventually began using it to cope after surviving sexual abuse. This poetess believes in building character and strength by sharing her own past oppressions and fears. However, instead of stressing being once victimized, she uses her experiences to enlighten, encourage and empower. Her uncensored gospel-like poetry flows rhythmically through various rhyming schemes revealing her love of the melodic 90’s hip-hop era. Her candid nature is instrumental to preventing injuries and healing wounds rather than picking scabs. Promoting assertiveness, self-esteem, awareness and unity is her blatant mission.

Intro
Metaphorically speaking, I’m an open book. I am not a scholastic writer. I am simply someone who has an absolute passion for writing with a purpose. My joy was once interrupted for quite some time. During that period I absolutely lost my mind. But I didn’t die, and all that lives heals eventually. Now with restored joy I’m elated just to be. But just being for me will never do. I believe that God gave me a gift and this gift I humbly share with you. My mouth is completely uncensored, but also is my heart. My only desire is to encourage assertiveness and self-esteem through my unyielding words.
Infinite Love,
Nicia De’Lovely

He said that he doesn’t understand me.
I asked, "What’s so difficult to understand?
I’m soft as raw cotton, sweet as Merlot and cool as steam my man."
CHAPTER ONE
EYES
EYES
Do you see me?
Do you really…
Sincerely, clearly see me?
Beyond the cosmetics, meals and love making
Do you see my needs?
Would you recognize them without my whining or warning?
If my fears and deepest passions were to cross your path
Would they be familiar?
Would you acknowledge them, or just let them pass?
Would you ignore them, because they’re weird and wonderful?
Do you know my secrets?
Have you kept them sacred?
If I asked you for a recap of yesterday, instead of a nightcap of Grande Mariner’
Would you deliver?
How about my talents
If they were to present themselves at your door
Would you know what was in store?
If I invited you into my dreams, what would we most likely do?
Which answer are you
False or true?
Could you identify my anxieties?
-My worries
What do they look like?
If they were to suddenly strike
Would your reaction be fight or flight?
What about my sensitivities?
Would you consider them friends or enemies?
If in urgent care, could you describe my allergies?
If the spotlight emphasized my vulnerabilities
Would you unfriend, or defend me?
When my emotions are present, are you?
Do you listen to the woes of my soul?
If circumstances disabled me
Would you commiserate, or fold?
Are you in tune to my every breath?
Could you prove loyal until my death?
No really…
Can you?
Could you identify my silhouette?
Can you draw my aura from memory?
With eyes
Heart
And soul
Do you really see me?
RISEN
Arose and
Chosen
Like the awakening of a people
A stimulated you, me and they
A new era
A new dynasty
The dawning of a new day
We are as seeds to soil
Dormant never
Emerging together
Tolerantly budding beneath the dirt
Within the earth
Feeding, molding, weeding, growing
Saturated with sediment of sentiment
We are concentrated and significant
Mounting
As mountains we are monuments joining the sky
Intensifying as we expand
Gaining wisdom from up high
With dilated eyes wide
And open minds broad like oceans
Now we see
Now we see
We are more than individuals
We are WE
From great pharaohs
Kings and Queens of B.C.
To the present day revolutionaries in DC
Displaced, defaced, disgraced and misplaced
YET today we know our place in this great human race
Demonstrating that we are none the lesser
Standing proudly on the spirit of our ancestors
Pioneering like Kool Herc and James Brown
We have risen to now get down
No longer will our oppressed tears and weary feet greet the
