A Forgotten Community
The complexity of the gut microbiota is difficult to comprehend. Our colons carry 399 trillion microorganisms that operate in groups to unpack our meals and extract the nutrients our bodies require.
Every bite we take goes downstream to our gut microbes. Our food is their food. However, each microbe eats a specific type of food, and each dietary decision we make can benefit one group of microbes while harming another. If we eliminate any food group from our diet, the microbes that rely on it will die. They reproduce so rapidly that the food we consume within twenty-four hours will affect the evolution of several generations of microbes. Control what you consume to control the makeup of your microbiome.
Healthy bacteria, also known as probiotics, work by transforming our food into postbiotics, which are health-promoting compounds that minimize inflammation and maintain gut balance. But unhealthy food feeds unhealthy microbes which produce substances that can negatively affect our health.
When you get more bad microbes and less of the good ones, imbalance occurs. This state of imbalance
