MULTIPLE INTEREST OF PSYCHOANALYSIS
Psychological interest of psychoanalysis
Freud defines PSYCHOANALYSIS as a MEDICAL PROCEDURE whose OBJECTIVE is the CURE OF NEUROSIS.
Freud mentions as PATHOLOGICAL FORMS THAT PSYCHOANALYSIS CAN BE A CURE to:
Seizures and inhibitions of HYSTERIA
Symptoms of OBSESSIVE NEUROSIS
There are other PATHOLOGIES THAT PSYCHOANALYSIS CANNOT CURE but to which it can nevertheless CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR EXPLANATION of it. The clear case of them is PSYCHOSIS. Psychoanalysis provides an explanation of the origin and mechanisms of this ailment.
Freud affirms that in addition to his contributions to medical and clinical treatment, PSYCHOANALYSIS HAS A VARIOUS SERIES OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO CULTURE. Freud's text is intended to explain the reasons why non-physicians might be interested in psychoanalytic doctrine.
Freud argues that PSYCHOANALYSIS HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT A WHOLE SERIES OF PHENOMENA (failed acts, dreams, delusions, seizures, etc.) BELONG TO THE FIELD OF THE PSYCHIC. Freud is proud to have narrowed down the field of physiology (which was the medical discipline in which the prior knowledge of his time threw these phenomena).
FAILED ACTS are psychic phenomena and EXPRESS A MEANING AND A TENDENCY THAT EXPRESSES CERTAIN INTENTIONS not visible to the naked eye.
Freud claims that the MOST FREQUENT CAUSE of failed acts is the AVOIDANCE OF DISPLACER. We forget the name of someone we dislike, we take the wrong train or bus when we don't feel like going on a certain trip, etc.
In other cases the CAUSE IS LESS DIRECT. For example when we forget the name of someone for whom we have no special ill will. Freud argues that THROUGH ASSOCIATION it is likely that this name is related to another that does arouse anger in us.
Also Freud mentions ORAL MISTAKES in conversation and attributes them to the secret INTENTION TO KEEP CERTAIN THOUGHTS HIDDEN FROM THE INTERLOCUTOR. Intent that fails by way of the verbal failed act.
Psychoanalysis also analyzes DREAMS and has given them a place as a PSYCHIC PHENOMENON. Dreams have a MEANING that is their own and are part of the psychic life of all individuals.
The MEANING AND INTENTION of a dream COMES FROM THE DEFORMATIONS WITH WHICH IT IS EXPRESSED.
When the dreamer wakes up, he only remembers her MANIFESTS CONTENT. Only through interpretation can one arrive at the LATENT IDEAS HIDING BEHIND THE MANIFEST CONTENT. Those latent ideas express INTENSELY PRESENT THOUGHTS OF
