Dear Mom,
Is it silly of me to think that you were immortal? I never thought there would come a day I would have to learn to adjust with life without you. I remember getting the phone call from Derrick saying you wouldn’t wake up and your body was cold. Even with the words being said to me, I remained calm and controlled. I told Derrick to ask the Paramedic to confirm if you were still breathing and that’s when you were announced dead. Before I could comfort myself, I promised Derrick that I would be there for him and was on my way. I remember my legs beginning to tremble and almost falling through the shower doors. I was about to take a shower when I got the news. Maybe that’s why the shower became my safe place? Before I could collapse, something held me up. I believe that was you.
You’ve always been my source of strength, yet I can never hold back my tears when I think of you. I used to cry from the pain of your absence. Today, I cry because I know I’ve made you proud. You were such a good Mom and I miss
