About this ebook

Many empaths struggle with anxiety. This is nothing to be ashamed of. Being people who are naturally sensitive and responsive to the energy of other people and their environment, empaths can quickly take on strong vibes that set off their nervous systems. However, there are many ways of coping and managing the anxiety which can greatly enhance the quality of an empath’s life and bring her or him a lot of joy. These include walking in nature, engaging in fun activities like creative outlets and exercise.

Empaths are resourceful and intelligent people who have the capacity to understand their anxiety and put it into context. No one likes to feel anxious but anxiety can’t always be controlled with a thought. Depending on past life-experiences, sources of support and other factors, stressors have a way to find us all in often busy lives. Basic and uniquely tailored self-care approaches all help empaths to find their equilibrium. This book guides empaths through their struggles with anxiety and teaches them skills to live well with it. Without being prescriptive, this book aims to offer hope and practical guidance. Personal and friendly, it is written with a helpful approach.

    THE RAVENS AND US

    Sometimes the raven

    Can look awkward

    Trying to walk on grass.

    But have you seen her

    In flight?

    She swooshes past you

    With grace and style,

    Comfortable with the weight

    Of the wind.

Just like the raven, we too

    Can look awkward

    Trying to walk through life

    When we feel anxious.

    But like her,

    Our gifts, talents, and abilities

    Can give us unique

    Style and grace

    To soar through life

    When we embrace

    Who we are.

    Welcome our own

    Awkwardness, our

    Anxious selves,

    And trust in the faith

    That is the wind

    Supporting our

    Metaphorical

    Wings.

    INTRODUCTION

I love empaths. I am one of them. I am also highly sensitive, introverted, and many other things. But when I introduce myself, I say I am an artist because that is who I feel myself to be in my core. The labels I mention above are helpful. They can guide us in how to think and feel about ourselves, we can learn a lot about why we think and do certain things. But as we all know, they are not definitive. No one likes to be labelled, unless we choose that label. A label is a sign (preferably to take us farther on the road to self-knowledge and awareness). It is not a symbol (representing the mystery of who we are).

But this is a book about empaths and the unique ability that we have to feel what and how others are feeling and our deep empathy with other living beings, be they animals or the wider living world. More specifically, it is a book to help heal—not cure—the anxiety that can often assail people with deep empathic ability. There are many books out there on the internet for us all to read about empaths, some better than others. They list the qualities of empaths, name the different types of empaths, and talk about emotional and other types of vampires that can have a negative impact on us and how we can protect ourselves. I would encourage all of us (myself included) not to be on the defensive. People come in all stripes, some more harmful than others, but it’s really a wide field. We don’t need to be afraid. We need to be awake, aware, and smart.

While it is true that many, if not most, of us have been scathed or wounded by harmful individuals, I would guess that we also encountered kind, helpful, and understanding people who showed us the better side of humanity. This book aims to be a source of ideas about how to calm our anxiety levels so that we can operate from our courageous selves and live with the natural enthusiasm and confidence that we were born with.

We may have lost some of this natural confidence, but empaths are typically enthusiastic people (even if it’s just about one thing) because we can love so much and with great strength.
