    INTRODUCTION

Shrouded in mystery, 9000 feet above sea level surrounded by air stirred up from Mt Everest, lies the mystical Shangri La.

Your spirit is soaring to finally, like an eagle, touch down in the Valley of the Longevity Giants, the Hunza people. There, you will meet the most astonishing people on the face of the planet.

The Hunza people are poor in money and possessions but rich in spirit:

    • no sick people to be seen

    • no military force

    • no shops

    • no negative attitudes.

    They have:

    • abundant health

    • abounding happiness

    • peace of mind deep in their spirit

    • the energy to walk 10 to 20 kilometres

    • wisdom to really take care of their families

    • a surprising number of their people who live to be 100 years old.

The Hunza people have the ability to be responsible for their own actions and that is why they are careful about what they eat, their exercise habits, e.g. walking and yoga, and maintaining positive thought patterns.

It is time to look into a mirror and face yourself – take a look at your naked self and do not blame anybody or anything else for what you see.

The Hunza people who are legends of longevity have the ability to face themselves and take responsibility for their own actions. One of the mysteries of life is why do we get sick? What are some of the laws or life principles that can literally change our life if we were to embrace them.

    Mind, body and spirit

Let us look at this from a mind, body and spirit perspective and face ourselves.

    The mind

All of life flows from our thoughts. Emerson, Socrates and others taught these things. All the answers to life are inside of us, they come to the surface during meditation and prayers. It is important to find a quiet place to sit and relax and ask ourselves some important questions. What thoughts have I had that have given me sickness, stress, anxiety, unforgiveness? What new thoughts can I have to transform my life?

The new thoughts we could have for ourselves and towards others are peaceful thoughts, loving thoughts, supportive thoughts, happy thoughts, and forgiving thoughts. Now let us look at the types of negative thoughts we might have towards ourselves and others such as hateful thoughts, criticizing thoughts, fearful thoughts, and revengeful thoughts and actions to others who have wronged us instead of forgiveness.

What you give to yourself and others, you will keep attracting into your life. This is the Law of Attraction.

    The body

What food you feed your body will help give you sickness or abundant health. Too much acid forming food like meat and too much fast food full of fat will help create sickness in your body over a period of time. Yes, it is you who contributes to causing the disease in your body, not your mother or father or the clever advertisements about unhealthy foods on TV. The good news is by making better choices like eating more alkaline forming food like vegetables, salad and fruit, we can literally transform our lives from the inside to the outside of our bodies, over a period of time.

As our internal awareness grows, we ask ourselves questions like: What breakfast is great for long-term energy, health, vitality and long life? What will be my lunch today to give me more focus, strength, creativity and health? What will be my dinner this evening that will refuel my body giving me more life, peace, energy and endurance?

Healthy food will give you the energy to kick start your body to fire you up to start exercising such as walking 20 minutes three times a week, Tai Chi, yoga, swimming, lifting small weights, golf, tennis etc. Your body needs exercise to get your heart pumping more highly oxygenated blood around your body to nourish all vital organs, reduce stress and anxiety, help remove toxins from the body, help lose weight and fat and to give us a more flexible body full of energy. What exercise can I start today for my health and my family’s health? What relaxing exercise can I begin to kick start my life now?

    The spirit

What spiritual vitamins can I give myself today? How can I support myself and my family and my friends and my work colleagues? We can give to ourselves by supporting ourselves and give to others by supporting and encouraging other people without thinking about getting anything in return. It is about loving and caring for ourselves and loving and caring for other people, this is different from romantic love for another person. We can choose happiness for ourselves and give happiness to other people.

Living a spiritual life is about being thankful for what you have received rather than complaining too much, because what you focus on will increase in your life. This leads to giving and receiving which is part of the law of increasing returns or the law of diminishing returns. Whatever you give to other people, whether good or bad, will start to increase in your life. This is also known as the law of the farm, that is, when you plant tomato seeds you will harvest tomatoes not watermelons. The law of diminishing returns means whatever you withhold from other people will be withheld from you, such as withholding love or kindness from other people.

Spiritual things involve intuition, creativity, inspiration, truth, healing, compassion, trust and wisdom. In his book, The Seat of the Soul, Gary Zukav talks about love, compassion and wisdom. He says they do not come from the personality, instead they are experiences of the soul. Your soul is the part of you that is immortal.

Listen to the wisdom of the ancients

    whispering your guidance within.

Whatever you put in your mouth every day over many years will determine your chances of living to be 100 years old like the biblical patriarchs.

You have control over your body. It is better to be master of yourself than the master of an army. To be master of yourself you need to be master of your habits. Either you master your habits or your habits will master you.

    Habit

    I am your constant companion

I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden

I will push you onward … or

    Drag you down to failure

I am completely at your command

Half the things you do you might just as well turn over to me and I will do them quickly

I am easily managed but you must be firm with me
