About this ebook
Embracing Change will give you a closer look at the transition I had to make to find the path to a healthier lifestyle. My intentions are to motivate and encourage others to embrace a change that may lead to happiness and inner peace.
Change is going to come, its part of nature. Its part of everyday living and its part of our growth process. The effect of the change is up to you and can be positive if you so choose. When change does come, embrace it!

No one need fear death. We need fear only that we may die without having known our greatest power. -- Norman Cousins

Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it. – David Starr
Foreword by Ebony Robinson
Years ago, when Drako and I first met, we were two preteens running around the neighborhood without a care in the world. Well, at least I didn’t have any. Drako, on the other hand, was worried about how to survive life in a world that wasn’t so great for young men growing up in poverty. Even with me being there, I never knew exactly what Drako was dealing with. It was years later, after many letters, calls, and emails from the Federal Correctional Facilities, that I had a firsthand glimpse into his life. He, expressing his appreciation for life and how his hardships helped mold him, gave me inspiration to push harder. Drako took his time and used it wisely; from learning new trades, developing a new craft (leather), furthering his education, writing books, blogs, poems, and now participating in the Residential Drug Abuse Program.
When I found out about him signing up for RDAP and what it was about, I was happy for him. I was excited that he would have an opportunity to gain something that could make him better and prepare him for society. I witnessed some of Drako’s struggles and circumstances that left him feeling that he had no choice but to hustle to take care of his family. Like many black families in the late eighties and nineties, his family was broken by drug addiction, leaving Drako to be the head of his household. Though life threw him lemons, Drako didn’t gripe or complain, he just made lemonade. With all the obstacles in front of him, Drako didn’t run and hide. He leaned in, met it head on, grabbed the bull by the horns, and truly embraced change. I have seen great improvement in him developing an understanding of what it takes to be a man. Drako has let nothing and no one get in the way of him being the best father, friend, and male role model that he intended to be. Embracing change isn’t as easy as it sounds, and some will tell you it’s the hardest thing you will ever do. Drako has truly exemplified what it means to really live a transformative life – life filled with purpose, understanding, patience, and most of all, love. No longer living a life full of negativity, Drako is well on his way to living life like it’s golden by embracing change!
